This engine is a Hall-Scott from the late 1950s. It is an inline 6cyl. 1091 cubic inch. Produced about 380 HP and around 1200 on torque. Note the dual distributors. This is in an old fire truck and I guess they wanted to make sure it got to the fire. Economy…NO. About 1mpg. That carburetor is about the size of a watermelon.

I remember those engines in semi trucks down in the Bay Area when I was a kid. Used to see them going up Altamont Pass at night, exhaust manifold and stack glowing very bright orange. Not red, but orange. I loved those engines. Your engine needs a bit of a “clean up” I think. I'll guess it's in a Seagraves?

For a parade truck an older Dodge pickup Cummins (no computer controls) would get it roadworthy. Maybe someone out there who's single could tackle it.
I can't see any scenario where ” Honey, there's this neat old fire truck I'd like to fix up” would not end with “Honey, what are you going to do with that rolling pin?”
Cool looking truck though A customer has a CNC shop, but I think he sold his plastic injection machines Someone out there could make the blanks for rotors if they had the specs

Hope you figure this one out Larry. Seems like a lot of trouble for a “Parade Truck” in Newport since the parade route couldn't even be a mile long.
Let's see…. start at the Safeway….. down to the MW bank on the corner….. down the street past the Pizza Place…. around the corner to the Pub…. around the corner past Napa…. back to the Safeway…. about 1/2 hour at 5 MPH I'd say.
Government is always agreeable.

LMAO Larry! In that case, no repairs are needed.
Then we would just have to park it on the shoulder of 41 and the parade would last only 10 minutes. That's about the time it takes for people to walk slowly from one end to the other. It actually takes me longer to drive into the Post Office from my place.

Whatever happened to Hall-Scott? Were they bought out by Hercules, Continental, or Waukesha?

Hall-Scott was bought by ACF in the 1920s. Then in 1954 Hercules bought them. In fact the engine in this truck says Hall-Scott then says Hercules under that. Hercules tried to expand their customer base beyond the federal government but had little success in doing so in later years. They made most of the engines for military Jeeps. When the military went away from the Jeeps and into the Humves that killed off Hercules. They closed their doors in 1999.
Hercules was from my home town of Canton Ohio. My dad worked for them during the war as an engineer and head machinist. He then went to work at the Ford engine plant as it was an offer for higher pay.
