2007 Jinma 204 Liadong engine. Is there a adjustment on the shuttle shift cable ? I cant seem to find one at either end, only the lock nuts that hold the cable housing. the trouble I am haveing its not engageing fully in forward and grinding results, when I shift form reverse to forward it sometimes does not engage fully and grinds, I shift back to reverse and then to forward and it will engage, I would like to fix this problem before I strip A gear or something worse. any one have any sugestions. Thanks Paolo

Adjusting the cable jacket does in fact adjust the linkage, however I would first check for sheared roll pins at the crank arm on the cross shaft.
This is tribal knowledge surreptitiously gleaned from the “Wheelies”.
Don't have a clue what it means…

I've heard that with the shuttle shift the suspect connection is just below the dash. That's my 2 cents.

I forgot to mention that if the cables are the adjustable type they will have an extended threaded portion on one end of the jacket. If not then they're not.
The sheared roll pin can be a tricky little bugger to detect. You actually have to view the shaft end-on to see if the crank arm is rotating the exact SAME amount as the shaft. If there is any play at all the pin is sheared and must be replaced. Do NOT drill out the hole and install a bolt in place of the roll pin, there are reasons for this.

There are a couple of places to adjust, you will see a cable bracket under the tractor that you can lengthen or shorten the travel of the cable, there is also a turnbuckle adjustment at the rear of the tractor.
If you cannot get it to adjust, you have bent the shift fork already and you have to remove the side plate on the tractor

Hey Paolo,
I have a 07 254 with shuttle shift. here's a couple of pics to help out.
The first pic in under the dash, There is a roll pin that I have had to replace at the bottom end of the shuttle shift, also the nut for the ball joint at the end of the cable has been loose, so I put some locktite on it. You can see where the cable has some adjustment.
The second pic, not as good, is the same bracket under the dash for the shuttle cable adjustment.
I don't have a pic for under the right side showing the cable, sorry.

Aubrey, you're the third or fourth person that I've seen have that same roll pin problem at that location since I've been on this site. If I was a betting man I'd say the odds are good that's the problem

True. Better to have the weak link on the outside so you don't have to dissasemble the tractor to repair the inside.

I replaced the rool pin conecting the shuttle shift to the shift cable It was broken. Are there any more levers or pivot points that have rool pins. All I see is carter pin conections under the tractor, and is still very sloppy when moveing shuttle shift. It shifts tnto reverse fine but will not shift into forward. It seems to me it does not have enough travel and won't engage forward. It will engage forward when I complete the throw with a stick from a seated position under my right foot thru the floorboard by pushing on the linkage just a touch. any sugestions would be helpfull as will be going into the barn/shop for a deserved rest thru the winter. and maintaince will be performed. Its getting to cold to work outside for me and my Chinese friend here in New England which has suprised me as to how much work it will do, being a small tractor Jinma 204 and has served me well since 2007, Thanks Paolo

There is a adjustment under the tractor that has a trnbuckle to adjust the amount the linkage can move, you need to adjust that linkage in or out to get enough movement in each direction

Sorry, I didnt post this fix to my problem sooner. the rool pin that is on the shifting lever on the transmission was broken, It was tough to get at floor board had to come out, I fixed it with a new rool pin and after some time it broke again after another tear down I nested two rool pins togeher one smaller than the other and returned to service not had a problem since.
