I have a 2004 Jinma 284 and am looking for help diagnosing my problem with the steering. Today the steering just “quit”. with no other warning or other symptoms. The steering is very difficult to turn and only turns very slightly. I'm assuming the pump is ok because the FEL that shares the hydraulics works fine. The only steering issue I've ever had was a small leak at the fitting on the cylinder. Are there any known issues with these? Thanks …

It soundsgoing to be a steering cylinder bypassing or possibly a priority valve no working,we have rebuild kits for the cylinders or new cylinders

You got it! I pulled off the steering cylinder and tore it apart… The seals were a mess… Very easy removal and repair…
Ordering rebuild kit from Tommy – “Affordable Tractor Sales”. Thanks…

I just finished rebuilding the cylinder. After cycling the steering lock to lock 25+ times or so, the problem remains. I'm suprised because the seals were torn pretty bad. Any ideas?

I'm not an expert but did you check for scoring on the inside of the cylinder?

Yes, all looked good with the inside of the cylinder. I'm pretty comfortable with the rebuild, It's similar to the loader cylinders that I've done…
Does anyone know if they sell a rebuild kit for the steering or priority valves?

Tommy's on vacation or he would have responded by now. Call Affordable or Ronald at Ranch Hand, they will be able to answer your question.

They do not make a rebuild kit for the steering motor or the priority valve, take a line off at the cylinder, put it in a bucket and start the tractor, see if any fluid is bypassing thru the cylinder.Steering motor failures are 1- in 100 cylinder kits sold so it is possible, but a expensive art to replace

OK, Here's what I've got… I took 1 hose off and could turn the wheel to the left shooting fluid out of the hose(couldn't turn to the right). I took the hose off the other side and could turn the wheel to the right shooting fluid out of the hose (but couldn't turn the wheel to the left. I did notice I did put a tiny nick in one of the seals on assembly but nothing like the old ones I replaced. FYI, The shaft appears to measure 22 MM ??? What have I missed? Thanks, Paul

Sounds to me like a hydraulic lock, for reasons unbeknownst to me. You don't want those seals to have any “nicks” at all – oil under pressure will by-pass.

Finally fixed! Process of elimination… cheapest parts first LOL. Purchased a priority valve from affordable (Tommy) and swapped it out. All set.. I'm wondering if debris may have gotten into the valve.
I have a screen for a filter. Is there a filter kit anywhere or am I on my own to fabricate one. I assume a filter can be installed in the return line.
Thanks Tommy for your help.

Depending on the size of your lines and what you will be filtering:

Glad we can help!!!!
I have a screw on filter kit you you can install on the return line to the pump,it comes with a filter head, screw on filter, fittings, compression fittings for your hard line. All you have to do is cut out about a 4″ section of the hard line to install
