Hey Guys,
I have a JM254 with about 150Hrs on it. Its a Shuttle Shift gear box, with 3 gears, selectable with Hi or Lo. The 1st and 3rd gears engage in hi and lo, but the 2nd nothing.. all your hear is a “wizzzzing” noise when its in the 2nd gear.
Have I lost the sproket in the gear box? or a key slipped out and the sproket is free spinning? Not to sure what to open to inspect the gearbox?
Any help would be great!!
Thanks all!
Matt

Try pulling to top cover and putting the gears in mesh by hand and see if something is spinning free.

I don't think there are any sprockets in the Jinma gearboxes, just gears.
It sounds as though you may have bent or broken the 2nd gear shift fork. Open the top cover of the gear box and watch while you shift through the gears. (I'd recommend doing it with the engine off so you don't get a gear oil bath.)
Do you have the manual and parts books for your tractor? The parts book shows an exploded view diagram of the gearbox so you can see what should be happening.
If you don't have all of the manuals and parts books for your tractor I strongly suggest you order a complete set from one of the advertisers here. You're gonna need them sooner or later.

Hey Guys, thanks for the advice!
This morning we finally had some nice weather, so i decided to go and check out the shiter gear box. I unbolted the plate, and pulled it out. Noticed that the Hi/Lo sider gear was alright, and also the slider gears for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd were all fine as well. Everything intacted, and working fine.. So i flipped over the shifter plate, and noticed that a bolt was missing from the “Guide” plate for finding the right pattern for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The plate was a little sloppy with out the one bolt. I had extras still from when I baught the tractor, and bolted it back up with some loctite.
Installed the plate back in, and hey what you know! I've got 2nd gear again!!
Now all I have to do, is drain the gear oil, and find the bolt that dropped out on me
Qucik fix!
Thanks everybody!

Yep, find that bolt or it will cost you dearly if it gets in the gears.

Excellent! Glad you fixed it. Do as Carl says, and don't leave that bolt rolling around down there.
