Have something really strange going on with the electrics on this 284. The battery light blinks on and off during operation. I can turn on the head lights and this stops the blinking. Gauges change some what with this also. Thought I had a bad t-stat, but the temp. reading is already at 80 C within a minute of start up. Now I'm beginning to think I have a bad sending unit for the temp. or it is coming from this electrical problem.?????? Input Please!

I have seen a bad voltage regulator cause the lights and gauges to act up, if you have the plug in type on the fuse box check to make sure its making a good connection, or pull it out and see if there is any difference. It sounds to me like its electrical

Is this the small silver box on the right side of the fuse box? It has five posts on the back and a blue circle on the front that reads JFT1411-14V-1200W. I pulled this out and it seems to have cured the temp. readout problem and the gauge jitters.

That's the voltage regulator. Did you actually remove/unplug it and then run the engine?

Yes, Removed/unplugged then ran the engine. I had no previous reading on my glow plugs for start up- now working. Temperature gauge below 40 at start up- previously at about 80 after start up. I think this is my problem!

Sounds like all you had was bad connections, but I'd give Tommy a shout anyway.

Willie, we had the same problem on a new 454 we got in this year and found it to be the voltage regulator as well. Hope that gets you going. Give us a call if we can be of help.

on my 2006 foton ft504a even after I replaced the voltage reg. the light flashes, until I place some load on the electrical system,I thought that something was going on so I placed a volt meter in the dash.you can see the meter pulse with the light at close to 14.8 volts,I guess all is well have orginal battery and it is always hot.I did not trust the idiot light oil pressure either placed a mechanical gauge.
