Got my 2009 Jinma 254 home from our camp this week.  Eventually will change out fluids, filters, retorque head, and make some upgrages.  Currently at 80 hours of hard use, suggestions as to what could/should be done would be appreciated.  My first order of business was to pull the starter and try to find out why I am getting a progressive problem with the solenoid picking the pinon gear out but not turning over the engine.  It usually happens a few times before finally engaging the flywheel and tuning over.  It has been getting worse lately.  On the bench when 12v is applied across the solenoid terminals the pinon gear shoots out but will not turn.  Seems like it should spin as well.  Am I wrong there?  Tried cleaning things up without any disassembly, but no help.

        Thanks

It sounds like the contacts are dirty in the solenoid. Sometimes you can take the solenoid apart and clean the contacts. The nuts on the studs may also be loose.

Seems as though it may have been one of the terminals on the pos lead from battery to starter.  It was so loose I could pull it off with my hand.  Should have looked at it as already had the same problem with the ground wire terminals.  As has been suggested by many look over the wiring of these tractors it is a weak link.  By the way pinon gear never did spin on the bench, but works fine in the tractor. ??
