4WD Won’t stay in gear

  I have a 1991 dragon 274 tractor . the 4 wheel drive shift will not stay in gear, I took the cap and the shift stick out and checked the shift block and it will go past where the shift ball fits into the shift slide block but it will not stay in gear, keeps jumping out of gear . any thoughts on what the cause may be? thanks Wayne 1971

  my tractor 2006 504a foton had that issue in reverse gear ,but mine has a tensioning bolt that adds pressure to the roller ball spring in the 2 wheel to 4 wheel shifter.has your something like that?

  I am not sure if it has a adjusting bolt for tension the pressure spring or not, but I will check to be sure. thanks Wayne 1971

  David, I checked and my tractor does not have a tension bolt that I can find . it have a fork shaft locking spring but no adjusting bolt.

  well maybe it is somrthing as simple as replacing just the spring,maybe it just lost tension memory or went limp
