It finally happened.   My muffler finally broke completely off on my 2005 Farm Pro 2430.   I have had it welded a couple of times but it was always kind of wobbly. It is the two bold design that looks like it could be hard to find.   The part I found on dealers' websites is the four bolt design.  When it broke off, it left about 6 inches of the old muffler along with part of the baffle.  The remaining stub is still securely attached to the exhaust coming out of the engine.

        Two questions:

        1.  Are there specific diesel tractor mufflers or are mufflers interchangeable between gas and diesel engines?

        2.  I'm thinking about getting a generic muffler (maybe from Tractor Supply) and clamping it to the remaining stub that was left.  Wonder if that would work?

whatever muffler you find check the displacement of the engine it is designed for and get as close or slightly larger .They have to move x amount of exhaust so the pipes should be in the ballpark also. And a gas burner muffler should work, remember to get a crooked weather head or flapper if upswept.

Tractor supply should have an equivalent muffler. Personally I would weld it to the remaining stub, simply clamping it would invite rusting out and exhaust escaping low where it will come right back at you while running the tractor.
