Replaced steering bearing this summer. Worked great, now I am seeing a leak from a hole in the steering column. It is about 1/4 of the way up the shaft. The hole seems as though it is supposed to be there, the leak….not so much. The liquid is a milky-rusty looking oil or grease. Performance doesn’t seem to be effected at this ooint but I use this tractor constantly and it cannot be down more than a day or so. I need to be proactive with the repairs. Any ideas?

To be honest I’ve never even looked under the dash but it’s obvious you’re getting water in there somehow. Either that or the water that’s been in there since the boat ride over here that caused your bearing failure in the first place never got completely removed.

Sounds like you’ve got a seal that went out in the steering box.  Sounds like the fluid is creeping up from the steering box into the steering shaft.
