The roll pin on the clutch shaft on my tractor came apart, allowing for an excess of play when engaging the clutch. I thought it was out of adjustment (and it was) but upon further examination I realized there was an excess of play in this pin. Now the problem; how the HECK do you get a new pin in there? There is very little room to work from underneath, and from above the transmission case actually is over the hole. I was able to drive it out from underneath and break it (them) off in pieces, but is there a trick to getting the new one in??
        Any tips would be appreciated!!!

I just replaced the pin’s this past weekend. They are a bitch to do . There is a 5mm inside a 8mm roll pin. I was able to get out the 5mm pin easily but the 8mm pin was put in from the top side. I was able to use a punch and hammer the 8mm pin from underneath and as it came out from the top I had to cut off a little at a time with a oscillating multi tool. From underneath I started the new 8mm pin and before it went all the way through I started the 5mm pin and was able to get them both through. But it is not easy.

Yeah I got mine in too, with a twist. I was pounding in the pins from underneath, and when I got to the point mt punch wouldn’t reach up in there I got an old 3/8 extension to reach up in there. While pounding on it, the extension slipped off, the punch fell, hit me in the mouth and broke one of my front teeth 🙁 I must have had my mouth open :mail: good news is, tractor is fixed, and my dentist gets more business

I gave up on the roll pin and have a 5/16 bolt in it with a nylon nut. Have to use a grade 8 or it will bend. Haven’t had a problem.
