Hard to go wrong with Stihl. Four strokes give you more torque per cc but don't wind up as high. All that is factored in though when it's designed. The main difference is way less emissions, easier starting and no mixing. I wonder how they conquer having oil pressure at any angle, do they have a pump, reservoir and dry sump?hmmm No idea about longevity. If it were me I'd do just what you're doing, ask questions, google, and ask more questions.

I did not have a stihl ,I had a mtd 4 stroke and did not think much of it they are a bit heavier and like said do not turn up as much rpm, gave it away .went to home depot bought a toro 2 stroke split shaft  that is one good running weed wacker that fits all my old attachments.

In 1998 Harbor Freight was selling reconditioned Ryobi four-stroke string trimmers. I bought one, and have since gone through six different attachments. I use it and abuse it. I run a leaf blower, edger, string trimmer, and saw blade. It runs upside down perfectly. I change the oil in the power head once a year (about 1/2 pint). Changed the spark plug for the first time two years ago. I would buy another four-stroke in a heartbeat.
