Finally making back to camp to replace bent connector rod. I did elect to weld the angle iron on to reinforce. Stupid question, but is it installed with the ball joints attached or put on the ball joints then tread the rod onto them? I am off the grid up there and have to take everything with me including info.

Sounds like you may be talking about tie rod ends and the drag link. Is that correct? If so it should be easier to thread them both into the drag link then install them.

Yea I posted about bending the steering connector rod (I call it the tie rod) which moves the front wheels together. I bent it mowing awhile back and the suggestion to reinforce was rebar inside the rod or weld angle on the outside. My question was about installation procedure, that is with or without ball joints screwed onto the rod.

You will do better to screw them into the tie-rod first. It seems like it would be difficult to try to install the ends first then screw them onto the rod.

remember there is a left hand and right hand thread, hope you remembered how many turns it was when you took it apart

The left and right will only go where they go and a tape measure alignment with the wheel straight should be good enough for a tractor. Make your front of wheel measurement slightly less than the rear (about 1/4″) to give it a little toe in and it won't wander.

So installed the rod Sunday, no way I could get it on with both ball joints attached. No clearance at the front wheel drive gear housing. Had to attach left and screw rod all the way down, then put right in link arm and try to screw rod onto it. Took awhile but got it done. The beefing up of the rod with angle was a problem as well. I used 3/4 inch angle welded to the rod instead of the suggested one inch and am glad as again clearance was really tough. The rod barely scraped by the gear housing with each turn, one inch would not have made it.

Which is why I and others recommend an inner reinforcing rod rather than external add-ons. Glad you could make it work.
