Hi Guys,
I remember someone saying that they installed a coolant overflow tank and was wondering where they put it on the tractor, (284), and what tank works best. Doesn't seem like any room under the hood and I'm tryin to save a step. Thanks, Fido

Trivia:
Technically speaking, they are referred to as Coolant Recovery Reservoirs (CRR's) or Coolant Expansion Reservoirs (CER's) because the coolant is drawn back into engine as it cools, eliminating radiator top tank air pockets. They can be located almost anywhere.
Sorry I can't be of any real help.

Here are a few pictures of my coolant recovery tank on my Farmpro 2430(JM304). I bought it at NAPA and made a bracket to mount it out of some scrap angle iron. It's pretty simple to make if you have a welder. If not it might be possible to just notch a piece of angle and bend it. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I looked in that area but decided that I would restrict too much air flow to the too small radiator. Scared that the temp will climb if I have it in front. I even wish the air box could be moved away. We are having some freakishly hot days up here and even tho the fins are clean, I gotta keep a close eye on the temp after a while. Then add a splash of coolant after it cools.
Bob, I remember you suggesting a better coolant at one time. What is it? Does it heat transfer better? Thanks again for the help, Fido

Yes, a lot better, but the main thing is to keep the cooling system clean and free from anything that clings to steel & iron (I have a cooling system filter).
A lot of folks use Final Charge coolant, including myself.
Others that are more affluent use Evans Waterless coolant, where the ultimate protection is needed.
It should be noted that recent practices are going away from using the traditional ethylene-glycol anti freeze mix in diesel engines.
You can mount the coolant recovery reservoir virtually anywhere on the tractor. It doesn't have to be near the radiator, that is just for convenience, just so long as it's installed correctly. Maybe under the operator's seat.
