This bar just sold, been on the market awhile. From the reader board I'm thinking the new owners have met the (ahem) wonderful folks down at city hall. And they can't figure out why half the buildings downtown are empty.

I think this is where politicians fall short in their vision – too detached from reality while at the same time attempting to get blood from turnips, aka “Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?”

I am a veteran as my father, many relatives, close friends and forefathers were and think this is the BEST country in the world. Much blood and lives were given to protect our freedoms, but the last four years I have seen such a decline in our freedoms and travesties against our Constitution I don't know where we will end up. I never thought I would see the end of the good old “USA” in my life time. I still have faith in all the “AMERICANS” that value the true meaning of our Constitution.
“LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUITE OF HAPPINESS FOR ALL”
I think this is what we should be thinking about for the upcoming Holiday that we celebrate on the 4th of July and all that fought for us to here today. I am afraid that the people that live free in the good old USA do not know the meaning of “Independence Day”.
Just wish the people that are elected would follow their oaths and follow the Constitution.
Sorry to see signs like this.

I'm a veteran too, but I quit that job many years ago and I don't do it anymore. Period. Just leave it be. The US is doing just fine. What you don't get is that that person is exercising their first amendment rights. Oooh rahhh. Smh.

What gets me is I've shown this to seven or eight customers today and every single one has a “city hall” nightmare story to tell, some going back twenty years or more.
This year they bought new business licensing software. Any business that was one day late renewing (like me with my medical condition at the time) had a letter sent to their landlord stating the city was putting a lien on their property for the enormous sum owed to them of $55.00!
It seems about half the businesses in town received the same threatening letter, destroying any good will there was, if any.
When I started back up after four months I asked the clerk if I could get any break on my water bill since the meter had not moved while I was closed, not really expecting much but why not try? I was told no, if I had come in back when I was laying in the hospital 200 miles away for all intents dead they could have suspended it, and they offered to suspend it now (after I explained I was opening back up), I just shook my head and paid the $200.00 for four months of not using any water or sewer.
On a happier note I'm celebrating all week. For our freedom on the Fourth, and for making it around the sun one more time this weekend. Considering the expectations/outcome I was presented with I think I would shock some people at OHSU if I walked in today in the shape I'm in.

Hope you'll be around for a long time Eric.
Attention Conservatives, talk about following the constitution: The House GOP has passed the most extreme national anti-choice bill we've seen in a decade. Not only is this legislation blatantly unconstitutional, it could erase decades of progress for women's rights.

I thought the most extreme national anti-choice bill we've seen in a decade was perhaps forcing people to buy insurance they may not want and then levying fines against those who refuse.
The truth is both of the major parties are only good at one thing and that is divide and conquer. As long as they keep people at each other they can do what they want which never matches what they say they are going to do. We can attribute every problem we face to these two parties. In my view they are both cull. Watch what they do and ignore what they say is my rule.
We can't get any real answers out of elected officials. I contact them all the time with questions but only get propaganda for a response. I stopped sending questions but instead make statements. The following statement was sent to all of my representatives and the White house. It read “It is intuitively obvious to the most casual of observers that the Keystone XL pipeline is designed to get oil out of the country not into it”.
The response was more “canned” propaganda.
It is an interesting world we live in. Paula Deen would have far less press coverage if she would have done something minor such as killed someone. Of course the press coverage also depends on the weapon used.
As we celebrate the 4th lets not forget what it meant to sign the declaration of independence at the time. You were signing your own death warrant. Jefferson died exactly 50 years after signing it on July 4th 1826. On his death bed he kept asking if it was the 4th yet. When they told him that it was he was soon gone.

Bob
First of all THANKS for you being a veteran and your service to our country!
I love the sign and the first amendment and think more people should express what they think about what is happening to them. Just hate to see what is happing to people that they have to put a sign like this up. I was referring to the local politicians that are suppressing businesses.
I don't know what part of the country you are living in, but all is not fine in the South East. There are literally hundreds of housing sub divisions unfinished and thousands of vacant foreclosed homes in the Atlanta area for the past five years that are not being sold and still high unemployment. I personally know a few hard working families that lost all the past few years. I'm shaking my head.
“Always Prepared, but finished”
As for myself I'll always look for a better future and keep the faith!

Well for those who have followed my issues over the last 6 years dealing with the City Mayor of Hardy Arkansas population 700. It is a perfect example of what most other large cities do too. City coucils and Mayors tend to forget how and what priorities are. The biggest to me, BALANCE YOUR BUDGET without cutting needed services. Business have to do it all the time to survive.
The good news in HARDY, they now have a COUNCIL in place that doesn't let the small minded Mayor abuse and control them. They just passed to require they follow Roberts Rules Of Order. They had to do that to be able to make the Mayor who oversees the council meetings to stop interjecting, interrupting and over talking any council member that doesn't agree with her… THAT IS A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
They also removed her and her “allies” from the A&P Commission, which controls over $100,000+ in funds to help promote the small city.
What I guess I am trying to say, AMERICA and DEMOCRACY does still work when the PEOPLE stand up, and decided to stop letting those that promise one thing once elected do something totally different!
GOD BLESS AMERICA – and for this person who was called by the Mayor of Hardy out as one who would destroy the city, GOD BLESS THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS OF HARDY ARKANSAS – keep doing what is right and desired by the people. The rest of America..don't just stand by and let the government continue to ABUSE THE RIGHTS AND CONSTITUTION OF AMERCA. 🙂
