Hi guys,
I've been reading and researching about the kits that are available for spray foaming your own insulation. Just wondering if any of you have already done this and would like to share his experience. I am leaning toward the closed cell, 2″ of R-6.7 per inch from “Foam it Green”, spraying onto an already built all steel building. I realize that R-13.4 leaves something to be desired but the size of the building means that each inch (R-6.7) will cost about $1400. Thanks Guys, Fido

that is the down side expense, but foam is the best on metal no sweating.I was going to use foam them I stumbled on free insul batting that is meant for metal bldgs it is 5 ft wide and instead of a paper back it is covered on one side with something that reminds me of house wrap.but it does sweat some. But it sure makes a big difference in cooling and heating.I think it is rated at r-13.

Wow! Free? I certainly would've ran with that deal too. I know its an investment, just doesn't seem to make the bite hurt any less. I guess I have time to give it more think cuz spraying temps gotta be around 70 and it is January in ND !

Now let me say this I am located only 4 miles from ga. in tn. and r-13 is good here .I would say that would be very minimal in nd. how about foam to stick to the metal to prevent sweating then some sort batten inslu over it.I have never heard of it being done and how much in cost savings?? would it be worth it,but a idea good or bad do not know.

I have no personal experience with foam-in-place insulation, but a contractor friend of mine has spent a bundle to get into the business, so he's convinced it is a good thing.
The only advice I might give is to check on the fire resistance. A house down the road, 3 year old million dollar home had a major fire and the word on the street is that the fire dept had great trouble in putting out the fire b/c the (closed cell) insulation kept on burning.
I spent extra $$$ to insulate my garage to house standards, and I'm glad I did. Oil is not likely to go down in price… except in ND where you just go out to the well and get a pail full, right? ***Laugh***

I think that they have a sticky type blown recylced newspaper insul .treated with borax .not supposed to burn well and bugs do not like it. I think the r value per inch is pretty good on it too.
