I believe I am having fuel issues and so I replaced the fuel filter, cleaned sediment bowl, and replaced the sebiffic ducts because they were cracked. The engine turns over but won’t start. I believe I’m not getting any fuel to the injectors and they are either clogged or the injector or pump has a problem. Iwas having a tough time starting it Sunday. It ran for a while then kept losing power and finally quit. It hasn’t started since then. I changed everything on Monday, but it still won’t start? Any ideas what I should do next?

I think at the lift pump the inlet hose has a filter screen inside the banjo bolt if not there look at the other fuel hoses. you might want to confirm fuel flow at each point at this time too.

Have you primed the fuel system using the hand pump?
If you can confirm fuel flow from the hand pump, through the screw on filter and into the injection pump, the next step would be to loosen the hard fuel lines at each injector and crank to see if you have fuel coming out.
Dave is right, they put filters in weird places on these tractors. I would start at the tank and work through the system until you find the place where the flow stops.
Let us know more details as you work through the system.

there is a filter screen in the tank too, it is on the top side of the shut off valve.

I have checked and cleaned all the filter screens. Is there 1 in the hose that attaches to that hex nut on the fuel tank? I even found a mobile diesel mechanic to look at it. He was able to get it started but it only ran for 15 min and died again. I don’t believe the hand pump works. Is there a way to order that part or am I looking at having to buy a whole new injector pump assembly? I’ve had this tractor since 2006 and have never had any issues until now.

the hand pump only primes up to the injector pump. It should be screwed down in normal running, but it as best as I know does nothing for the engines normal running, it is just to get the air out for easier starting after working on fuel system. BTW when using the hand pump a air vent must be opened to let out air out of system, pump until see fuel spurting out . what did the guy do to get it to run? and if it just quit I would think it is still a fuel issue. have you checked the oil level in the injector pump?

Did you get it, just curious as I have 2006 Foton 404? What they told you is everything I know. If there is something else would like to know for future info.

Thanks guys for all the advice! I finally got it running. As I suspected, it wasn’t getting any fuel and the priming pump wasn’t getting any fuel into the the injectors. I took it completely apart(priming pump) removed all the fuel lines, cleaned every filter screen in the fuel lines, drained the fuel tank and blew it out as best I could, then put it all back together. I was actually corresponding with a Chinese company that was going to sell me a new fuel injector pump! It was actually going to cost me more to ship it than the pump itself!! lol After, I got the priming pump put back together, I could hear it pushing the fuel into the injectors. The diesel mechanic told me to use CDC parts cleaner to shoot into the manifold to get it to start because it was safer to use than ether. I did this, and it fired right up. Ran a little rough at first, but after 20 seconds or so, sounded normal to me again. It has been running fine since. Again, many thanks for all the advice!

I’ll keep that in mind. I’ve only had to use the primer pump once and it worked fine. What the mechanic told you to use for starting is correct. Thomas at Affordable has always told me to never use ether with those motors. Thanks for the info.

so where did you find the blockage at ? just thought there must be a check valve in there somewhere in the pump that could have been stuck closed.

David, there was gunk in all the in-line hose filters, but I think the main culprit was big rust particles inside the throat of the sediment bulb before the screen which is why I decided to drain and flush the tank as best I could. The hand pump wasn’t working either and I figured I had nothing to lose by taking it apart and cleaning the inner guts of it since I had already found a replacement injector pump from a company in China and was ready to order it. I found it ironic the the cost of the pump was 124.00 US and the freight to ship it to the US was 126.00 and they would only ship DHL

even so 250.00 for a injector pump is cheap, there is advantages to try keeping the fuel tank as full as possible when sitting in between uses ,less chance of condensation. just keep a eye on it for a while you should be able to work the rust out just with vibration from use. hopefully.
