Hi Everybody
I got a Jinma 254 2011 with 52 hours and since few weeks ,the tractor lacks power .have some white smoke ,first I have removed the injectors and have them checked by a local shop , two of them was bad ,I has reinstalled new ones and the fuel filter (whitout filling the fuel filter with fuel…) now the problem is the same and not solved ,someone told me maybe you have air into fuel system ,i has bleeded the rear injector with engine running and a small amount of air goes out, engine sound changed when slacking fuel line ,samething for the center cylinder ,the front cylinder have a lot of air into the fuel line and fuel seems not goes up enough ,i have opened this line for 10 minutes when engine running and nothing change , Someone have an idea ? thanks Stephan

Sounds like the barrel & plunger are stuck in fuel injection pump (there is no user fix for this). Can you rev the engine up and down?

yes I can rev the engine ,this morning I pump the primer without any changes

If you can rev the engine up and down then the rack is not stuck, but if you are still getting white exhaust smoke and the engine is (or isn't) missing, the timing is off on the #1 barrel & plunger (individual pump). At this point a pic of your injection pump would be handy. Some barrel assemblies are adjustable from the outside but still cannot be calibrated accurately without a test stand.

Stephan, I would try bleeding system again, pump up the hand pump on side of injection pump and hold down while opening the screw just below the hard lines on injection pump, after the hand pump that you are holding down goes down, close the screw off and pump up hand pump again and repeat the process until pure fuel runs out. I am a little confused about your bleeding process.

Hi Everybody,
I don`t know if pump pics shows with this reply ,it seems i`m not better with computers than diesel engines .. I have inverted 2 injectors to make a test this morning and the front cylinder injector works perfectly on cyl 2 but make nothing on cyl 1 pure fuel are coming (maybe without enough pressure ) I got two pictures of that pump and I will retry to add them shortly

If I understand correctly, you swapped the #1 and #2 injectors and the #1 cylinder doesn't fire with either injector, right? You say you are getting “raw” fuel from the injector in the #1 position, which indicates to me that the #1 pump in the injector pump assembly is faulty and not delivering sufficient pressure to atomize the fuel. You should get an atomized spray of fuel from the injector, not a stream or spurt.
In short, if I have things understood correctly, you need your injector pump rebuilt (if even possible, which I doubt) or replaced. Check with Tommy at Affordable Tractor Sales or Ronald at RanchHand Supply for a new injector pump.
If you do have to replace the pump, be absolutely sure that every other aspect of the entire fuel system from the tank to the injectors themselves is absolutely clean and free of moisture or diesel bugs. If you put in a new pump and still have water or diesel bugs, you'll soon ruin the new pump, too.

If this is the case then my earlier diagnosis is validated. The plunger in #1 barrel isn't getting full stroke or the helix is out of time (calibration). However, the symptoms described depict a dribbling injector that isn't popping at all, almost like the pintle spring is broken (which is not uncommon), but that doesn't transfer from injector to injector.

Hi Bob ,
My english is not very good but you have well understand ,I`m just came back from the big diesel shop I has towed the tractor to last Monday , the technician has tried to adjust the fuel pump whitout significant success ($87 hour rate ),he told me if the pump assy cost around $600 I will certainly save money to order a new one ( internal parts are unavailable around here ) ,But the new problem ,he d`ont have any shop manual to reinstall the new pump properly ( timing) ,the pump are always on the tractor and that shop awaiting my decision ….
he found dirt somewhere in pump ,he recommends me to install an aftermarket fuel filter between the tank and the pump
I will try to order internal pump parts (rebuilt kit) or complete pump from Tommy or Ronald today
Is it possible to have installation instructions for the technician ? tommy or Ronald have rebuilt kit or internal parts for sale ? I need to have answers before removing the pump ( tractor runs badly but runs enough to climb on the trailer )
I have two pics of the pump assy and something has been changed on CTOA site ,i has posted few pics in the past and now I cannot put any by now …can be sent easyly by e-mail

You can't get rebuild kits for these pumps as far as I know. You just buy a new one and replace it.
Any good diesel mechanic should be able to time the injection pump through the procedure of “spill timing”, which is a standard technique used on all sorts of diesels. If your mechanic doesn't know about spill timing it may be time to look for a different mechanic. The initial pump timing specification is listed in the engine manual that should have come with the tractor. If you don't have the manual you can order one when you order the injection pump.
I'm surprised that your 2011 tractor doesn't have a spin-on fuel filter – my 2007 has one. You can easily add one, just order one from a marine supply to get one that is better built than most.

I will order a new pump tomorrow to finally solve the problem ,it`s winter here in Quebec Canada and I need to get my snowblower installed on the Jinma until April 15 … The tractor have a spin on fuel filter between the pump and the tank only to filter the unusued fuel return to the tank ,I hope I got a good mechanic ,it`s a really big shop who represents Perkins engines in quebec area ,

Rebuild kits or internal parts are not available for MOST fuel injection pumps period, unless to an authorized dealer (there are licensing agreements on this stuff that would make your head spin). Even if you could get internal parts, you still wouldn't have the equipment to set the timing and calibration on each individual pump to the governor. Generally, only specialized diesel shops will have this equipment due to the high capital investment ($30k+). A self-taught diesel mechanic that primarily does overhauls, top ends & tune ups won't necessairly know about the spill-timing method, but there is enough info on the web about it.

Are you sure of that? The spin-on filter is usually the secondary filter which is located between the lift pump and the fuel injection pump. There is no primary filter per se, only the screen in the sediment bowl, and the small screen in the lift pump suction banjo bolt fitting. The return fuel to the tank from the fuel injection pump is not filtered.

Hi Everybody
finally my tractor has been
repaired by a nearby tractor shop ,it was not the fuel pump only a broken valve rocker causing all the problems , not so expensive to fix
