The tachometer and hour meter on the Jinma 200 series (TY 290 engine) worked intermittently and died. The meter, the reluctor or wiring between? Separating the connector a few inches from the reluctor (pick up) allowed a continuity test to the meter terminals utilizing an ohm meter. The wiring was intact. Remember to turn the key on, battery disconnected.
Gambling, a new reluctor was ordered. These are found under several names on the web sirtes: RPM Sensor, Tachometer Sensor and Tach Sending Unit. More than one type is available, what I was looking for turned out to be aTC-02.
Putting the old and new reluctors side by side on the work bench, the leads from the ohm meter were first connected with the terminals on the old unit. The needle on the ohm meter did not budge. . . The procedure was duplicated on the replacement unit and away went the needle on the ohm meter This test could have been easily done without removing the reluctor, however, inspection of the far end of the sensor was in order.
Many thanks for postings '' on the older board giving instructions for replacing the body of the reluctor/sensor/pick up (or whatever you wish to call it) indicating proper depth of the body. Per prior instructions: screw the body in until it just touches the fly wheel and then back it off about 3/4 of a turn and then tighten the 2 nuts.
Firing up the tractor, the tachometer sprang to life. Sigh of relief!

I have Jinma 254LE with the same Tach/hour meter problem..intermittent but mostly not working. I've check the wiring for loose connections etc. But I don't know what or where a RELUCTOR is located. Any help is always appreciated.

Think I found the reluctor on my tractor. It is in the front face of the fly wheel housing…..a treaded bolt with two wires coming from it. But the wire numbers were not the same as on the diagram. I'll do some more troubleshooting. If I decide to replace the reluctor, where would I purchase one? Thanks to all….
