Hello all. The local paper is having an on line auction coming up and I'm looking at a grader blade if the price is right. The question I have is, what would be the right size for a 284? These three will be up for auction:

The common one for that tractor is a 5 foot. If your ground is real easy to work you might get away with a 6 foot.

Thanks, that's what I thought Larry. With my ground maybe I should look for a 3 Foot
Seriously though I would use this for the driveway and snow. If it was a fresh job I'd level with the box scraper first and finish with this.
I see the links don't go strait to the item. If you click on the first link, and click on “home and garden” on the left the 5' is at the bottom. The other two, generic, are on page two. Anyone have an opinion what that Land Pride 5' should be worth as far as a bid goes?

That's not a real heavy-duty unit so I'd guess the thing is probably worth about $450-$500 generally. I'd bid u to about $350 – if I won I'd feel like I got a deal and if someone else bid more I could tell myself I really wanted to hold out for a better model.

The photo's didn't show up so I don't know what they are auctioning off.
I can tell you that you will need a blade that is at least wider than what you have your wheels set at. When you angle the blade it will cover a narrower swath so it may leave tire tracks in what your grading. A have a tractor the same size as yours and I am using a 6' blade.
Finally figured out how to find the blades. I don't like any of them, they look to weak. If your going grade gravel you need a stronger blade and stronger 3 pt mount. My blade was strong enough but my mount was always breaking so I fabricated a very stout 3 pt mount for the blade and it totally solved the breaking problem.
If you buy one of those blades you will need to weld a piece of 3″ square tubing to the back of the blade to keep it from bending. Then, sometime in the future the 3 pt mount will start breaking at the welds mostly.

Tin , I have a 6' and I use it mostly for plowing snow. It works best for me when I plow in reverse, not so easy on the neck but I get much better control and I can get right up on the area I'm plowing. I paid about 450 -500 new for mine. I consider it a very worthwhile purchase. BG

Tin, I vote for the 6 footer.

I may just pass altogether. The six footer does not impress me much as far as build quality and features and is now going for $200.00. The five footer is a Land Pride, seems well built, and can be offset 12″ either way, but the minimum bid is $300.00 No doubt worth it, but I'm thinking the $300.00 would be better spent putting it toward the bucket grapple project, I can still do a lot with the box scraper. I still have two days to get off the fence.

You definitely won't be disappointed with that bucket grapple!
I'll see if I can get an action shot of mine for you.

That would be great Bob
I'm already dreaming of the next item on my wish list. A friend has a 2004 Dodge 3/4 ton 4WD diesel crew cab, leather interior and all the bells and whistles. 36000 miles on it, showroom shape one owner, for $20,000 If I can sell a few cars and come up with ten, then I'd stretch myself out and get a loan for the rest.

Looks like I'm the proud owner of a Land Pride 5' rear blade. Bid the minimum and was the only one. I got to thinking the trails I want to make for my wife will be at the most 5' and this would be eaiser to park hooked up than something bigger.
The price was right

Land Pride is a good brand. The industry joke for years was “Land Pride wow they are proud of that stuff”. If you got a good deal then that's outstanding!

Larry, that's good to hear. Just this week I ordered a Land Pride 4 ft rototiller for the ladies that I help from time to time. They have an organic farm and an older Jinma 254 that I try and maintain for them. In return I get food.
They had an older Chinese rototiller that apparently did not like rocks, and is currently in many, many pieces.
Glad to hear from an expert that I luckily made a good choice.
Mike
