I’ve been sitting on this issue for about a year now, figured with the summer heat coming this would be the time for it to go out of commission for a clutch replacement.

From my research, it sounds like I’m going to need a new clutch, but I’d just like some of the pros here to validate that.

I’ve adjusted the pedal to have 1″ of free play.

I’ve adjusted the finger gap (using the document that is floating around) to two different distances, ~1/8″, and ~1/16″, just to see if that made a difference, and it did not.

Here is a youtube video of how it behaves: https://youtu.be/LZO3hyp4UDk

I start in H-L-1.  It works fine in this gear.

At 0:24, I switch to H-L-2.  Still works decent.

At 0:36, I put it in H-H-1.  Here it starts to slip.

At 1:01 I put it back in H-L-1.

At 1:10 i put it in H-L-3.  It is going, but slips here as well.

I’m attaching a photo of my clutch finger adjustment as well.

Does this seem like clutch slippage that would necessitate a new clutch?

I think you are correct it needs a clutch as I was watching the video the pedal position when the tractor starts to move is almost fully released ,it should be engaging sooner. Does it have a 2 stage clutch and does the pto operate normally? You checked all the pedals roll pins right.

It does have a 2-stage clutch.  The PTO runs fine.  I had to max out the pedal adjustment.  What roll pins do you mean?

some of these tractors that have a shuttle shifts seem bad about shearing a pins in the levers that change tractor directions but now that I think of it  that would not be in your case. But look at all the pedal connections to make sure, I think no two were made the same. What kinda tractor and hp is it anyway?

Unfortunately I don’t have the space to work on it inside and with the temps being 100+ for the next few weeks I didn’t want to tackle this, so I took it to someone to work on.  He’s got it but hasn’t split it yet.  I’ll update with his findings.

Update is that the clutch was down to the rivets.  New one has been ordered and hopefully I’ll be operational again shortly.

remember the new clutch will  wear in and need to be readjusted, you can not set and forget
