Here is a picture of a prototype Hydraulic Overflow Tank.

15″ of 1-1/2″ PVC with end caps glued on. Drilled and tapped for some 1/4″ NPT X 5/16″ hose barb fittings. I replaced the air breather pipe on the fill plug with a straight pipe to eliminate the trap that was created by having the hose loop down before going back up. The tank is just held in place with bungees until I know if it will work or not. Internal capacity works out to be about 14 fluid ounces. The main thing is that it is significantly higher than the breather tube.

Hopefully now when pushing up piles of snow or whatever with the loader the fluid that usually spit out all over the rear end will just peacefully return to the tank.

If you want to see a better picture I have one posted on my web page. Just click the thumbnail for a larger image.

That should work fine. What I’ve seen others do is just run the tube up to the top of the ROPS, and that seems to be sufficient. Your setup may be different though.

I had gone as far as the hinge point of the ROPS but not to the top. It kept spitting fluid. If you look close you can see the last dose on the top of the left fender.

The real problem is the small capacity of the tank, only 2.5 gal. This is fine for steering and 3point but when you add a FEL it stretches it to the max. When pushing snow or manure piles up as high as possible when the tractor starts to climb the pile the vent spits out fluid and you don’t have to loose much to make the system start sucking air. Plus it makes a mess and is expensive to waste.

Time will tell how this works. Heading out now to do some yard work. I’ll let you know what happens.
