Hi there. I have narrowed down my tractor hydraulic problem to a broken spindle in the timing case that turns the hydraulic pump. I found some metal pieces in there when I took the hydraulic pump off. That explained the complete lack of hydraulics in the F.E.L. and power steering. Looks scary if I have to take off the whole Timing Case cover to do this. Is there a trick to this? Is there perhaps a “single” bolt that I have to undo? I have ordered the correct part for my machine.

Wish I could help you, but I’ve never had to get into that area. I just noticed the directory of tractor dealers above is empty, strange. Try contacting Keno Tractors in Oregon or Tommy at Affordable Tractors in Texas, or Circle G in Tennessee. Anyone of them will have been there, done that. Hope this helps.

Have you determined what caused the spindle to fail? was the pump deadheaded? Like tinbender I have not been in there so can not help you much. So I was thinking about not tearing up the new part.

The hoses were always connected either to the Front End Loader, or just joined together bypassing the F.E.L. I religiously do this now since the first time I didn’t, I burst (split) my hydraulic pump. Actually for some reason the little shaft (spindle grabber) in the timing case, broke and therefore can’t grab and turn the pump spindle. I think my next move is to remove the pump again and see if there’s some kind of retainer ring or such that is holding that shaft (spindle grabber) in the timing case. That would be the easiest fix. Really dreading taking off the radiator, fan, water pump etc. to get inside the timing case. There be dragons there.

if you do pull the cover I would suggest that you line up all the timing marks and document beforeĀ  you remove anything gear or shaft wise as a just in case.

This shows how the timing marks line up. Your hydraulic pump drive gear is on the lower left.
