I am posting in hopes this helps someone. Many others have helped me many times in these forums.

I have a Jimna 284, about 17 years old. While plowing the road today, the tractor started sputtering, picked back up so I continued to plow. About 2 minutes later it started again, and really acted like it was going to stop, so I killed it.

I totally forgot everything about the tractor, and ran to the forum to start looking. I read several posts about many fuel problems, so I checked all the typical thing, filter, bowl, color of fuel, smell of fuel…All looked good.

I figured the worst, but primed the pump and when I loosed the bleeder ring while priming, I thought I saw some air bubbles. As I primed flow was good, so I tightened the prime and started. Was running pretty good for about 2 minutes when it sputtered again.

Did the prime again and checked the bowl a bit more. I noticed the bowl was easy to turn. I turned it a bit, about finger tight, primed and fired it up. Ran like a champ.

It is way too cold out there to fool with it more tonight. I am hoping to get it into the garage this weekend and get a closer look. I am thinking there is a seal, O-ring or something that needs replacing.

If anyone has some pictures of it pulled apart, please send along. Else I will post some when I get a chance to work on it later

In any case, it is good thing to check if the happens to you.

        Thanks
        Jerry

If you determine that the fuel bowl seal is a problem, I would buy a new after market one. Chances are it will be better made. They come in several styles. The one on my foton had a plastic bowl which is difficult to see thru , I changed it to a ford clone with a glass bowl works great.
