I am about to attempt to replace the forward gears in my 2007 Jinma 284 (I stripped 3rd)
I am not a mechanic but a tinkerer. On first look it appears I should be able to take this apart fairly easily. Does any body have any warnings for me ? Are things going to spring apart when I dismantle them ? Is there any tricks to making this task easier ? Even better does anyone have step by step instructions to accomplish this ?
Am I biting off more than I can chew ?

I found your post and have been waiting for an update to see how you made out. I am an experienced tinkerer but opted to trailer my Jinma 284 to Keno for repairs for a buggered up transmission and clutch. I thought splitting a tractor in the driveway may exceed the limitations of my shade tree. :good:

I am still driving with two forward gears. I keep telling myself I rarely use 3rd and the rest of the gears looked in pretty decent shape after I made sure there were no more metal pieces in the oil pan. Once I realized I had to split the tractor I became a bit more leary about taking on the job myself.
I am in north eastern Ontario so trailering to Keno would be an undertaking. I’ll post when there is an update.

Thanks for the update Tom! Yes, Chalk River would be quite the haul to Keno, I am lucky it’s only a 3 hour drive hauling the trailer. My Grandfather and Great Grandparents on my Fathers side were from Almonte just down the road from you a bit. They moved to the states in 1904 after my Great Grandfather passed. Things probably changed bit since then. Good luck with your Tractor, mine is still in tear down waiting for the prognosis later this week.
