I thought some of you may like to see what a NT254 with a 5' mower can do. I let my hillside grow to much. I kept saying I'll cut it next year. Well, now it's almost to late. the field has heavy thorn bushes, shrubs and trees up to four inches in diameter. The thorn bushes are the worst, they rip me to pieces and have ripped my glasses right off my face. Luckily I found them before I destroyed them with the mower. I had to remove the canopy and a tree ripped the exhaust pipe and muffler off one time. Mowing trees is hell on me and the tractor and mower.
I decided I have to stop this now so this fall I started mowing. I have been mowing trees from about 2″+ down to brush with my mower and it has been interesting and fun. On the larger trees I use low gear low range and creeper gear. Most of the mowing is in low gear low range high creeper. I mow around the trees that look over 2″ and will cut them down with a chain saw and use them for fire wood.
It's starting to look like a park now with standing trees spread over the hillside but all the trees will come down and I will keep it mowed from now on, at least as long as me and the tractor and mower live.

Yes, more to go. Here's a photo of how the area in the other photo looks like now. I will leave two grown up areas for the critters to live in but I will still have to control the trees somehow in those areas. I may end up mowing the underbrush every year all over the hillside just to keep control of it.

The thought has crossed my mind. There's about 5 acres I could fence in.

I do not know how many acres you have total but if it is over 15 look into greenbelt tax status. tree farm and cows work .

I wish, we only have 6.8 acres. In Missouri we had a 44 acre reqistered Tree Farm. I wish we had enough to do the same here but we don't. Money and availability of land put us in this ag 2 subdivision. I would have preferred to have at least 10 acres. 10 acres in Ky makes you a farm and not subject to many of the zoning laws.
