I don't care what some people say. When I need a part, like a key for my ignition, and it costs me just under $5.00 that's one thing. But when the part costs me $10.00 to ship, that is ridiculous. I tried CGtractors, jmparts, farmproparts and affordable tractors and their shipping was ridiculous. The key doesn't cost them $5.00 and it sure doesn't cost $10.00 for shipping. Put the darn thing in an envelope and send it to me. I just can't believe this stuff. Business is business but no wonder we are in the state we are in. Give me a break!!!

Hmmmm…since diesels don't have ignitions, I guess you mean the starter key. I've never bought just a key, but I've purchased a number of parts from Affordable Tractor sales, Ranch Hand Supply and Circle G Tractors and all of them have had extremely reasonable shipping rates. Were you just looking online or did you actually call them on the phone? All three of them have gone out of their way to ship my stuff in Flat Rate boxes to save me shipping costs, since I live where UPS doesn't go. I see no reason that they wouldn't send you a key in a small Flat Rate mailer for about $3 shipping, if you ask them.

HI
First of all, I replaced my key switch a year ago, but the new key was different than the old one. I could send you one of my old keys if you were willing to wait until next weekend, but as I said it may not work. My tractor is a 07 model. You could just replace the switch with a Ford unit that has been described else where in this forum. I have to agree with you, sometimes it seems the shipping is outrageous.

It takes time and postage to ship stuff. Many times it's more time consuming to ship something than sell it over the counter. You can't just put something in an envelope and send it because the new postal machines will spit the part out the end of the envelope when it goes through the machine. That puts the machine out of service and your part gets lost.
Ask me how I know this.
You have the cost of the shipping container with exceptions, doing the paper work and boxing it and taking it to the shipping agent. Selling through the mail is not like writing a letter and sending it.

When our shopping cart was set up for Online orders it had to have a min. shipping charge, some items it is high on some it is cheap on.We are open 6 days a week, all you would of had to do is call,we would have sent you the part in a $ 3.00 mailer.
You are making it sound like we are price gouging you to death,we spend hours on the phone trying to help you guys out at “NO CHARGE”, we don't expect anything for that time,we answer the phone so if you have a problem with our service give me a call.Guess what if you order a water pump the shipping is the same as the min. for the key,but it costs me $ 4.00 more.
You are welcome to order a key from China, but your not going to like there shipping cost either

I am with Tommy 100%. Somebody has to
pull the part and package it up for shipment. That person does not
work for free. Somebody has to bill for it. There is more cost. In
the state where I am by law inventory must be done at least once a
year so we can pay the state inventory tax. There more cost. The
postal service ad says “If it fits is ships up to 70 lbs” But
they still want to know the weight down to the ounce. That means buy
a freight scale that will give accurate weight down to the ounce. Go
price a good one. Oh, and the guy needs it shipped today but mail carrier, UPS etc has already came. Now somebody has to run the thing into post office etc. Done that one hundreds of times.Small parts that cost a few bucks are a loss to even mess with. A 1$ parts costs just as much to mess with as a $500 part. The problem is that nobody sees how much a business spends to get all this stuff done.
Sure glad I am retired from this crap!

Sounds to me like a lack of understanding, or senility.

I seem to remember something in the old forums about the use of a Honda key blank working, I'll see if I can find it
Here it is :My original ignition key for my Iron Horse 224 was cheap and kept bending.
The old honda key blanks fit this ignition switch.Ilco key blank #HO44
ESP key blank #HD69These are nickle plated brass keys and are much stronger than the originals.

With the price of shipping yes the parts become more expensive but how else are you going to get parts. I had China qoute me on a part and it was free but the shipping was $60. Tommy from Affordable shipped the part with shipping cost and it was a totall of $27 now this was a almost two week delivery from Texas to Canada but less than half the price of a free part from China. Those guys at Affordable keep us chinese tractor owners going with lots of free advice and with fair priceing so quit bitching.

Well, actually I owe those companies an apology for venting my frustrations on them. I apologize for venting in public like that. I was just so darn mad I could have chewed on nails and it was not proper for me to take it out on you. I have ordered parts I believe from all those companies and I have had no complaints. In fact, I ordered a few more items in the past that I thought I might need in the near future and just bundled it. In the future, I will take the advice of Tommy and call. I guess I am not as patient as I thought I should be so thank you for the lesson. My attitude was uncalled for. I did end up ordering the part anyway. Badger is correct and I should never haved bitched anyway.

Brad, sometimes we all need to vent, before we explode, no biggie. My rant is with pre paid minimums for my freight. From my paint suppliers it's up to $4,000.00. Now I have to project out three to four weeks how much of what I'll sell, and I carry four paint lines
Now that's out of the way…. Tommy, if I ever get around to wanting a back hoe, can you put it in a Priority Mail box?

Hi guys,
I have just got to comment on the spare parts issues.
I have recently had to buy again, a new steering knuckle for my 2007 Jinma 554 tractor. I do everything I can to monitor and adjust to prevent breakages – but ……, maybe I'm just unlucky.
Anyhow, I recently (June 2nd 2011) placed an order with one of the tractor parts suppliers who advertize on this forum. I had used them before three years ago and was happy with the service and prices then. This time it is a totally different story !!!
I ordered four items that were sent with UPS – parts supplier recommend that I use them. I live in Canada and the distance thing for delivery, becomes a bit of a problem. I was assured that if I used UPS the delivery time would be just a week.
Well, waddaya know, that was complete hogwash ! The parts total was $280.00, the shipping and UPS charges were $83.51 for a total of $363.51.
After the first week went by I contacted the shipper and ask where is my order ? They replied that there must have been a routing error and that my order was in Washington state en route to Canada. Hhhhhhm – one week delivery time guarantee eh !
With my previous experience of UPS I decided to look again for parts, but this time in Canada. I found a company in Ontario and dealt with them. They had to order the steering knuckle that I needed, direct from China. The part was sent to Ontario by air frieght from China. My order was then put together (they had the rest of the parts in stock) and shipped it to me by Canada Post. From first making the order to my receiving it in BC, took only two weeks ! Imagine parts from China to Ontario, then Ontario to BC to me – two weeks ! Not bad I'm very impressed.
After two weeks waiting for the first order and no contact from either the tractor parts dealer or UPS, I shoot off another email to enquire on the status of my order. Reply said the order was in Canada and en route.
Now, as of this morning, 3rd July 2011, I have heard nothing further from the parts supplier in the US or from UPS – the so called courier service. So, I am about to call the credit card company and put a “stop payment” on the first order – since I haven't received the good I ordered. I will then proceed to send a real “factual letter” to both UPS and the parts supplier, laying out clearly, why I will never, ever be doing business with them again, in my life time. And, of course, when the time is right, use the internet to document why.
Incidently, the second order placed with the Canadian company, for the same parts cost me just under $200 Canadian – including shipping and taxes etc. That is freeking $163.51 cheaper than the original order. And, I have the parts installed already, on the tractor.
I am keeping quiet for the time being, about the name of the company who pushed UPS as the service to use ! When this mess finally gets sorted out, then I will be happy to let you guys know who not to do business with. It is not Ranch Hand or Affordable – so Tommy and Ronald have no worries.
However, since I was/would be held to randsom over the parts issue, I will be making every effort to create a real “stink” about what has transpired. Both the parts seller and UPS have a lot to answer for regarding their services – including the complete lack of customer service. I have been left high and dry and of course neither of the two companies have bothered to follow through on customer enquiries.
Just thought I would mentioned my experiences to date – and yes, my order is still not delivered. I have purchased quite a bit of stuff over the years (generally that is) and have never ever experienced this sort of service before. Excluding the parts supplier for now, I would recommend that who ever purchases partsout of state – NEVER USE UPS. THEIR SERVICE IS NON EXISTANT AND THEIR COSTS ARE HORRENDOUS.
Thanks – I feel a lot better for having got that off my chest.
I will update later when everything finally gets sorted out.
Cheers

I prefer Fed Ex, they have only damaged/destroyed one shipment in two years ( I receive three or four a week) When the company 99% of these orders come from was using UPS it was one damaged/lost a couple times a month. As for freight services USF Reddaway seems to be in the damage/lose/be late/stomp all over the “do not step on” sticker, etc. business. One in four shipments will have no damage and be on time IF I'm lucky. They have the balls to deliver pallets with paint dripping off them, saying they have to so I can choose to accept or refuse the order!
Sorry can't help with the cross border stuff, never had to do that.

Hi folks, here's my 2 cents.
First, partly because I'm close by and dealing with a Canadian dealer is easier than friggin around with border issues (and costs), I also deal with Asian Tractor (formerly JDB) and have always had excellent service and fair prices. I've also dealt with Tommy, and was very happy with his service & price, but the border thing more than doubled the cost of the parts. Sorry, Tommy.
When I bought my tractor a few years ago I bought the Chinese backhoe. (Don't do that!) After a few months the pivot points for the swing were shot, and with Mariner's help I contacted the factory, who sent the two new mating parts on warranty, free gratis. Excellent!!! I thought. Just one complication… they had to include the parts (about 140 pounds) in a crate tractor order going to a “local” dealer. Except that the local dealer was in Quebec, near Trois Rivieres, which is 400 or 500 miles from where I live in Ontario. “Pas de probleme!” says the Quebec dealer, and onto Fedex it went. After several days I called FedEx and eventually tracked it down to a transfer station in Montreal, where the clerk said the shipmanet was too heavy, and they were going to send it back to the shipper. “WTF?” I exclaimed. How it makes more sense to ship it 200 miles back instead of 300 to the destination excaped me, and after much whining and sobbing (on my part) she agreed to ship it to me. So, $400 shipping costs later I got my “free” part delivered to the FedEx depot, where I still had to track it down and go get it, another 20 mile drive. If I had known all this I would have jumped in my pickup and driven to the dealer, saved some cash, and had the parts 10 days sooner.
So, Mariner, I sympathize with your carrier frustration, but I think it's 6 of one, half a dozen of another.

PS: Just finishing my garage construction, taking delivery of a 9000# capacity, 4-post vehicle hoist today. Gloat, gloat.

That hoist is worth gloating about That said do you have UPS and FedEx freight up there? 400# non hazardous going 500 miles should have been around $35-$50.00 common carrier. It sounds like the dealer doesn't know how to ship parts. After all, is your hoist showing up in a little UPS or FedEx Van?

Hi guys,
An update to my situation re parts cost and UPS.
I was left a message yesterday, on my answering machine that said I would now have to pay another $93.77 before my package would be released – no mention of delivery here. Hhhhhm – I smell another rat – what about taxes and duty ????
Something tells me that there are going to be more costs associated with this yet.
Again, amyone who is thinking of shippng UPS – DON'T. My experiences are that nothing will be said up front about “extra costs” and once the shipping company has your parts, they will hold you ransom for the extra money by refusing delivery until these extra charges are paid.
Again, I cannot warn you folks enough – DON'T USE UPS UNLESS YOU LIKE PAYING FAR TOO MUCH.
Oh, I didn't mention that it is nearly five weeks now and still no parts – on what I was told would be a seven delivery !!!!
Gotta check with the credit card company on this re stop payment !!
More to come later !
Thx

That's neat! Kinda like unemployment insurance. I think I'll try that on some of my clients and then see how long I stay in business. I may have a pair, but they're not that big.

Prarie Dog, after re-reading your post I see the part was 140lbs., not 400.
That's still almost double the max (75 lbs.) for UPS and FedEx ground. On UPS or FedEx Freight, or any other freight company truck I can't see that costing more than $35.00 to ship.
