Hal,
I know I don't post as often as others, however I noticed that I can not insert a link, paste a picture (like a screen shot right now). Is this something new or is the permissions to do this by default, turned off.

A recent posting of mine indicates the same problem. Wishing to post two items I had on paper, I scanned them to document files. There was no way I could manage to either drag the files over to the CTOA reply area nor could the files (opened) be cut and pasted to the CTOA reply area. I did manage to drag a Google web site reference from one of their search pages to the CTOA reply area on another thread.
The CTOA reply area tool bar has a provision for pasting as plain text. This would not work. The bar also allows pasting from word – but – this computer came with Microsoft Works and not Microsoft Word.
I write a column for a local paper and it was the same problem in that they use Miocrosoft Word which would not recognize the Microsoft Works chosen format, wps. After trying other avenues, I found that sending out my articles in Rich Text Format works fine with Microsoft Word at the newspaper office. Likewise, nobody else has complained of not being able to open what I send in RTF.
To get to the RTF program, once my article is done, I hit the “File” drop down menu, then the “save as” option. A box will appear at the bottom wherein a subject can be entered. By default, Microsoft Works saves the article in the wps. format. At this point, move to the next line down marked “Save As Type”. A drop down will appear giving the choice of a number of formats. Simply chose “Rich Text Format”. Photos and scans of documents are converted to JPEG. This is seldom a problem for recipients.
Possibly this site can be engineered to accept this approach. As Aubrey indicates, it would be helpful to move outside material to the CTOA pages.

Bootlegger,
Another way to deal with the Word incompatibility issues is to download Open Office. It is a free, open-source analogue of Microsoft Office – word processor, spreadsheet program and database. It doesn't have an analogue of Outlook, unfortunately, but other than that it is great. Looks just like the Microsoft programs as far as the user interface goes and it can output files in the Microsoft formats.
With most scanners you can set the output to be jpeg as long as you're not going to use an optical character recognition program (OCR) to convert them to ascii text.
I haven't yet tried to post any pictures or documents here so I can't be any help on that. I guess I need to try that one of these days. Talk is cheap but pictures are more work.

I changed some settings to see if that might help. Not sure if I even understand the issue. You can UPLOAD a image to your post by just clicking on the little icon that looks like a tree!
I changed that setting to OPEN a more LOGICAL UPLOAD BOX.. just click on the ICON next to the upload box that will pop up if your needing to actually upload a image. Or, you can just paste a hyperlink to a exhisiting image on the www too.
I also set it to allow PDF type files.. or say it says it will ! 🙂

Wow, that didn't work well. Typed up an explaination, hit the Post reply, and blank space.. 3 times
Anyway its two fold:
I am unable to paste a picture into any post. the “Tree” icon is useful
for copying the location of a picture, not the actual picture..Secondly,
I am unable to insert a link unless I type in the URL. The “Insert/edit
link” icon is greyed out. I can use the “paste from word” icon but not the inset link.http://www.ctoa.net/photo-album/

Well I'll do my best to explain: I clicked on the tree, clicked upload, then browse, chose this scan converted to jpg. Photos or scans have to be shrunk to around 100kb I think, and it puts it into your own file manager. From there you close that out, the window the tree opened up will still be there. Now click browse and choose the photo in your file manager you want to post and voilà, there it is! Simple no? no?
PS: For those of you who weren't there, that's Charles Lindberg's plane painted (Doped) with Valspar coatings!

Tin
I've been trying to copy and paste a pic, quicker.. I can upload pics but I prefer to use Ctrl C and Ctrl V, 2 steps instead of Browse, find pic, upload, re-adjust pic, blah, blah..
Copy paste has been around for ever, thought it would have been a given.
Still can't use the insert/edit link on the blue bar 9th from the left…

You can not simply COPY and PASTE a picture image into a POST.Now if the image is already on the www somewhere you could just go to that picture and get its hyperlink (just right click over a image on the www then select properties and copy that information).
Once you have its hyperlink of the image you can then use the (little tree) icon but then when its box pops up just paste the image link into the first line that says IMAGE URL I used these steps and copied the image link from the picture in the post above, but you can do that with any picture on the www. This is different then if you wish to POST a IMAGE that you have on your own personal computer. For that you need to first upload them onto the server using the steps describe in the earlier post.

To HALIFAX regarding your question on the 9th from the left the Insert/Edit Hyperlink
This works if you wish to have a word linked to somewhere else in the www.
However, for them to actually become enabled you first would need to HIGHLIGHT a word are phrase in your post such as THIS WORD which I highlighted with my mouse after typing it..then I could use the insert/edit hyperlink like you are trying to do.
I hope that helps explain it somewhat better!!

Wow,
Operator error once again! I guess if I knew enough I wouldn't have to post.
Funny I can build them, program them, but using them is another story…..
Thanks,
Aubrey
