I'm installing a new pump to drive our LW-7 backhoe.
The pump is specified to run at 540 rpm, with a max rpm of 600 rpm.
Our tractor is a Foton FT404, which can output either 540rpm or 1000 rpm at the PTO.
The PTO pump requires torque from the tractor and is specified to 11.9 hp (8.9 kW).
I guess the hydraulic pump doesn't survive long, if we accidentally put the PTO in the 1000 rpm, rather than the 540 rpm gear. Ideally, I would like to have been able to block the 1000 rpm setting, in order to avoid the risk of damaging the new pump. But I guess, that is not an easy task to do. Anybody who has done this already?
Myrphys Law says “If it can go wrong, It will!”
So, what will happen if we overrev the new pump? Is it destroyed beyond repair? Or is it possible to get any repair kit for the Prince HC-PTO-7A? If so, we might order a repair kit up front. Anybody here who have experience with repairing the Prince pumps?

well just placing the pump in on the 1000 rpm wont tear it up remember that the pto does not hit 540 rpm till the engine is around 2000 rpm so at a idle on the 1000 rpm setting the pump wont be over reving. on my foton (504a) the pto shift arm is in a gate so a simple strap could be placed below the neutral position to block it off.

I have a 354tractor with a LW-7 BH and installed a Prince HP PTO 7A earlier this year. What a difference from the factory pump. I have my PTO set in the 540 position and only have to run my tractor at idle speed (800 rpm) when using my BH. Once in a while if using the BH hard I’ll bump up the rpm’s to 900-1,000 otherwise it runs fine. You should not have to worry about rebuilding the Prince Pump unless it is used and abused, but Prince sells rebuild kits. I am curious as to how you hooked up the return line from the hydraulic reservoir to the pump and then the line from the outlet to the controls. I redesigned my pump hoses. See my post on this site “Hydraulic cooling system for LW7 Backhoe” for the modifications.

If you go the Prince pump route don't forget the reaction bar.
I also have a new extra rebuild kit for the HCA-7 PTO pump.
$30.00 plus postage. (all it contains is the two shaft seals and some O-rings). I believe that's a lot less than the going price.
