I HAVE A FOTON 704 AND RECENTLY THE RPM INDICATOR AS WELL AS THE HOURS OF SERVICE HAVE BEEN ON THE BLINK. HERE'S WHAT TRANSPIRES: WHEN THE TRACTOR IS 1ST STARTED AND FOR MAYBE 30 SECONDS, EVERYTHING WORKS, THEN IT WILL NOT WORK ANY MORE UNTIL THE NEXT DAY AFTER THE TRACTOR SITS. I HAVE NOT DONE ANYTHING EXCEPT THINK ABOUT IT, NOT SURE WHERE TO START-SO I WONDER IF SOMETHING SHAKES LOOSE OR JUST A LITTLE HEAT IS AFFECTING SOMETHING. GUESS THE 1ST THING IS TO DROP THE DASH? ANY HINTS WOULD HE HELPFUL.

I had a issue with the tachometer, all I did was to reset the pickup on the bellhousing.Turn it in till it stops then back out 1 turn lock in place with a jam nut if I remember right.I think there is a electrical relation between the tach and the hour meter. I have a 2006 ft504a so the two tractors might be close in the ideas they used.

You could try cleaning the tach pickup that is screwed into the flywheel housing. The pickup is magnetic and picks up small metal particles, iron filings etc. as well as get doused with oil. Maybe all it needs is the pickup to be t aken out, cleaned replaced and set up. Won't cost you anything and well worth trying IMHO.

Both the tach and the hours meter are driven by the sensor. The sensor sits near the flywheel, and the iron in the ring gear teeth running through the magnetic field of the sensor creates an alternating current which the tach senses. The sensor has to be precisely positioned for this to work. With the engine off, loosen the lock nut and screw it in until it touches, and then back it out 3/4 of a turn and lock it.
If that doesn't do it you need a new sensor, they're not expensive or hard to replace.

Hi Folks
I have a 2008 YTO 704 I purchased new , I have problems with my tach and hour meter,I have installed an auxiliary hour meter, and in the process of installing an auxiliary Tach, the tach gets the signal from the alternator, I have checked the AC voltage at back of alternator, it is fine(I cannot remember the number), the problem seems to be in my instrument cluster, a new cluster from YTO in china is $ 108.00 usd FOB.
I will replace the cluster eventually but for now a Tach from the local auto parts store is only $25.00.
Your Foton I believe would be the same as my YTO, I have tried to attach photos to this reply but cannot get them to work, if you want to pm me for photos of my tach and alternator feel free to do so.

I have Foton 404 and my instrument cluster was doing the same. Greg G. told me to get a can of CRC instrument cleaner and pull the connectors and spray them, everything started working again. That was about 6 months ago. A couple of weeks ago my tach started acting up again so I pulled the connectors and cleaned them again only this time it didn't work. I reset the pick-up and that didn't work. What ended up being the problem was the battery was low. My alternator wasn't charging the battery. When I charged the battery up the tach started working. The reason the alternator wasn't charging was the power line to the starter/battery posititive wire has a connector (have no clue why an 8 inch long wire needs one) lost connection. I pulled the connector and sprayed it and I was getting a charge to the battery. Larry.
