Any good ideas for shrinking a picture to 50mb? I see the new maximum size is half the old one. I have windows 7 on the new laptop and am still figuring it out. seems no matter how small I resize the picture it's still 2gb?

any picture being posted on the net doesn;t need to be anywhere near 2mb. I can increase the max image size with no problem if that helps but not to 2mb for one image..again way to big a size for internet use.
I reset the MAX size to 524,288 kb which is 1/2 meg which should be way more than enough for any single image upload.

Thanks Hal. I never had a problem shrinking pics with the paint program on my XP 'puter, but with this Win7 when I shrink them below 135kb, They look smaller than a postage stamp.
Hope this makes your day; figuring out this site is much eaiser than figuring out some of the interface changes between XP and 7

Tin, W7 is a pain when compared to xp. However here is a quick fix that will show more information about your W7 pc than you will ever need. Follow the directions below and you will unlock a display built in to windows that MS makes available just by creating and naming a folder on your desktop.
Follow these directions exactly, harmless and enlightening I promise !
Step 1: Right click on your desktop display.
Step 2: Click create folder.
Step 3: ReName your new folder exactly this….. copy and paste,the line below…
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
This directs your folder to display a ton of availble info to you. Only works with Windows7. BG

In regards to pictures being included in post. I have it set to automatically create a THUMBNAIL that will show in your post, but when clicked on they will open up to the original size. I think this is a perfect compromise.
I did just reset the thumbnail to be just a bit larger for the post. But again, just clicking on the little mouse on the top right corner will open them up. Here is a sample uploaded picture of mine that was 1200×1600 size. With the new thumbnail max width of only 200px it fits easily on the site in the post and then when clicked pops up still just fine. I BELIEVE IT IS A GREAT COMPROMISE!

Tinbender,
If you have MS Office on your Win7 machine resizing pictures is easy. I have MS Office 2003 and all I do is open the pcture in Windows Office Picture Manager and click on “Edit Picture.” In the editing pane thereis afunction at the bottom called “Compress Picture.” Click on that and it gives you options of different compression ratios such as document, web. email, etc. It shows you what size the picture file is and what size it will be when/if you compress it. Pick the compression you like and click on it – simple.
Hope this helps.
