I have a YCT306 dozer with a shuttle shift that has stopped engaging. It began as slow, then slower engagement into forward or reverse. I replaced the pump and now get a ratcheting noise as I try to shift into forward or reverse.

Hi Mick, welcome.
It sounds like splines on the input shaft are giving way, but I have to ask what oil are you using in the clutch?
Also; What year is it, does it have an accumulator in the clutch hydraulic circuit, when was the last time the oil was changed in the clutch and the suction screen cleaned?

Hi, drive at end of shuttle clutch is stripped out.
This is exactly what happened to me. Could not get a new internal
splined section so had to get a newer internal splined section, cut it
in half and take the good half and have it Tig welded to the the new internal splined section. It worked. A machine shop did this for me.
Otherwise all you have is a big piece of scrap metal.
This is because the older style bell for the shuttle clutch does not
have the same number of engagement splines as the new ones.
Also there is a good chance your transmission shaft splines are stripped also. You can get this shaft.
I think this problem is caused by loose bolts from the transmission to shuttle clutch causing a mis-alignment and sawing action on the engaging splines. Thus noise is probably grinding sound as the last of the spines are ripped away.

My splined section failed because the new coupler was not centered correctly. Have used a section of PTO coupler from Tractor Supply and welded it inside of old coupler. Built up shaft splines of partly stripped
transmission shaft #1 with hard facing and cut splines to fit inside
PTO coupler.

Hi there
I picked up a used yct306s-6 dozer I have had the machine about five months. It had around 100 hours on it. I have put on about 20 hrs. Im having trouble with my shuttle clutch. Its not finding neutral and when in forward or reverse it lugs the engine almost to a stall. I have drained and changed all fluids motor, clutch, trans. I’m using hy-trans oil in the clutch.
Any thoughts?
Thanks -

UCCDOZER Welcome,
Please start a new thread and include the year of your dozer, and if it has the hydraulic accumulator or not.
Thanks
Btw, Hy-Tran oil does not have an AGMA rating, and is not recommended in your shuttle clutch for optimum performance. You should be using an oil of the correct viscosity that is recommended for geared friction drives, which is what you have. We'll touch on that later.

Hi bob.
I was wondering how to start a new thread? Or did you mean a whole new topic. -
