What makes you think that it is the solenoid?
Have you tried cleaning the solenoid?

I'm afraid we need more information.
Have you checked for blown fuses?
Have you checked all of the battery connections, particularly the ground?
Can you start the engine by jumping across the big solenoid terminals?

Blown fuses, check. Battery terminals and connections, check. Special attention to ground lug and terminal, check.
Okay, I accidentally bumped the lugs on the solenoid when I was checking for voltage on the terminal, and it made the starter spin (but didn't engage the starter drive).

Try jumping across the large solenoid terminal with the battery cable on it and the small terminal on the solenoid. Be sure the transmission is in neutral.

Chuck, we probably have that solinoid, go to http://www.circlegtractorparts.com and click on starter-solinoid on right side, it will be close to the bottom of page. See if you see yours there.
