Rented a TB 175 to remove this abandoned cistern that I found in the middle of my driveway (pathway for electrical conduit), and this is as far as I got. It's approximately 1,000 gallons and the walls are 6″ – 8″ wire reinforced concrete. I'm too old to be doing the sledge hammer thing.
What do you think?

Rent a electric Bosch Jackhammer and break 2- slots for the new conduit to run thru. How deep is the bix,? From the Pic it looks like a 48″ x 48″ box ?

Forgot to mention that it's about 6' x 6' x about 5' tall and sticks up about 12″ above final grade. Demo hammer looks like the way to go, all the way around about 24″ from the top. Sigh. Was hoping for an easier solution.

Thought of that but my neighbor is a Trident Sub Base. I don't think they would think a loud bang was funny.

Gee Bob, just ask your friendly neighbors for their help. If they get to make the bang they won't mind it. (grin)

Cornball suggestion.
I wonder if that darn thing would float. Dig trenches around it (half way there already), pump some water in the trenches, get some chains under it and drag/haul the darn thing away.

Excellent suggestion Bert. Trying to find a local source for it, or Ecobust (same type of stuff).

Let me know if you have any luck Bob, that looks like the only way I'll ever get T posts in the ground around here.

I checked all around, can't find either product anywhere. They are online sales only for Washington state. Home Depot offers free shipping for the Ecobust, but it's 5-7 days away. So I rented a 35# blow Bosch demo hammer instead.

I always wondered if a product like Dexpan would work on tree stumps?

Probably not since the wood is so porous.

Aside from the wood being too porus as Ron states, I think the wood would be too forgiving and “spongy” as compared to concrete or rock.
I don’t think it expands all that much, unlike a wedge being driven into wood.
Try it, see if it works.
Bigger,
Even if it did float (which I doubt it would), I have nowhere to put it.

For tree stumps you need either a big shove like you get with ANFO, ors a high brissance snap like you get with PETN. So if you want the whole stump out, you mix up a batch of ANFO under and around the stump and wait several hours then light it off. Heaves stuff up and out just dandy, if the neighbors don't mind. If you just want to cleave the stump off at a given point, a wrap or two of det cord around it does the job okay. That one will be over with so quick the neighbors won't know what they heard. (grin)

I assume if a non-explosive demolition agent worked on tree stumps, a manufacturer would already be marketing it for that use. As for the use of an explosive demolition agent, I think the neighbors would mind. Some neighbors are even pushing to ban leaf blowers and other “loud” equipment.
Bob, maybe I will give it a try.

Anything to do with the Bobcat? Is there anything that can't be attached to one of those? I've seen some cool stuff done around here

This boom only fits the dozer. The orange thing in the center is the remote switch to raise & lower the hammer. Works great but it sure is a bone shaker. The hammer weighs 65 lbs.

Done! Just like it was never there. However, I still have a mountain of dirt left. How did that happen?
