I am having problems with my shuttle clutch, works when warm, not so much cold. reverse fine, foward, well that is the problem. I used the cheep oil that I got at the local farm supply, I am going to change to see if I used the wrong stuff. Does anyone know what is the right oil?

You said that the problem is with your shuttle clutch, but your post is titled “which hydrilc[sic] oil?”
I don't have a shuttle-shift tractor, but all the Jinma tractors with shuttle-shift use, as far as I know, 80W-90 gear oil for the transmission, front end, rear end and shuttle shift. From what I have read, the passage for the gear oil to get to the shuttle shift area is rather small so you sometimes have to over-fill the transmission initially to get oil to it. Also as far as I know, the shuttle shift linkage is mechanical, rather than hydraulic.
I'm sure someone here who actually has one will be able to give youfurther (and no doubt better) information.

You use the term “shuttle clutch”. Is this a crawler? The more info you provide the more on target the responses will be.

It is the Yucca 395 dozer. I had the plate over the clutch's off last year, and the hydralic fittings going into the clutch packs were like some kids 7th grad metal shop project. one actually fell into the case when the cover was removed. I replaced the “O” rings and reassembled, and replaced the “O” rings on the shuttle valve. again reverse is fine, it is foward that can be a problem. it will run fine one day, and if it cools down the next foward can be a problem.

May 10, 2011 at 3:25 pm #32254Per Bob Rooks from the old forums:ISO AW220 Machine Oil with an AGMA rating is offered by almost all major oil companies but it's not something you're going to find at the local auto parts store because it's more of a specialized lubricant. You can order it through NAPA with their brand on it, or you can get it from your local petroleum distributor. The average parts counter person probably won't have any knowledge of it. I know Al likes to use 30w motor oil in his, but the owners that have switched to the ISO AW220 have noted increased performance and lower clutch oil temperatures.
I wouldn't even consider using ATF or AW32 hydraulic oil either._________________

Hi, also you can install a pressure gauge on the block next to the
shuttle clutch valve. Max. operating pressure of 40 psi for shuttle clutch.
Gauge can be used for troubleshooting. I used a Rainbird gauge from a hardware store and tapped the block to install. I hope you are not having the same problems I had, it sound like you are. On these shuttle clutch's there is an internally splined gear into which the top #1 transmission shaft fits into. The splined gear and transmission shaft can get stripped, giving these same symptoms you are having. I pulled out my internally splined shuttle clutch shaft and #1 transmission shaft and fixed them. I carefully removed existing splines in the shuttle clutch
part and welded in a new splined (PTO coupler) part from Tractor Supply Co. Then I took the transmission shaft and built up the splines with hard facing rod, and then cut the splines to fit. The early dozers with shuttle clutch were not built very good.
