Went out to start my McConnell Marc 425XL (Jinma 254) loader the other day after it’s been sitting since last November. It’s been sitting under my carport the whole time out of the real bad weather…I hooked up the battery, pushed it the clutch and kicked on the glow plugs…turned the key to start got nothing…I tried it a couple more times and it blew the 30 amp fuse. I replaced the fuse still nothing on the start side. I got down off the tractor and jumped it with a screw driver and it fired right up…I let it run for awhile to warm up…I shut it down…I thought I would try the key again to start it and it worked..it fired right back up…so now everything is working like it should with the key switch. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on what might have been going on with the starter and or the switch….Thanks Larry

I am guessing but I would say the starter was stuck and the electrical system could not deliver the amount of amps the starter relay wanted so it popped the fuse. You bypassed the fuse when you used a screwdriver and give the starter a bunch of amps it wanted and it freed up. IT is a guess. Keep a eye on your fuel bowl for water and other junk since the tractor has sat for so long hopefully with a full tank.

Yes, what David said. Stuck solenoid. I’ve seen this happen when the solenoid motor (slug) is lubricated with grease instead of graphite. Grease thickens in cold temps and is also a dust and dirt magnet.

Thanks Dave and Bob for your input….I do keep the tank mostly full (the fuel gauge don’t work…I check it with a piece of wooden dowel rod) and put power source fuel treatment in it with the Bio Diesel to kill the Diesel bugs that Bob talks about…I did put a new fuel filter on it last year…the guy I bought it from hadn’t changed the filter from when the tractor was new (eight years)…so far it’s been running really good….
