You can get one from either Affordable Tractor Sales in Texas or from Ranch Hand Supply in Virginia. Bot of them are advertisers here and are listed in the advertisers index.
Bootlegger,
Another way to deal with the Word incompatibility issues is to download Open Office. It is a free, open-source analogue of Microsoft Office – word processor, spreadsheet program and database. It doesn't have an analogue of Outlook, unfortunately, but other than that it is great. Looks just like the Microsoft programs as far as the user interface goes and it can output files in the Microsoft formats.
With most scanners you can set the output to be jpeg as long as you're not going to use an optical character recognition program (OCR) to convert them to ascii text.
I haven't yet tried to post any pictures or documents here so I can't be any help on that. I guess I need to try that one of these days. Talk is cheap but pictures are more work.
That broken joint looks like it was under-engineered to begin with and then subsequent repairs just exacerbated the problem by creating a brittle heat-affected-zone (HAZ) at the edges of the weld. When you weld a piece that is under high stress and vibration like this piece, I recommend that you pre-heat the weld area to about 400°F and also post-heat and peen the welds. That relieves the welding stresses in the HAZ so you don't create a stress riser. The addition of a gusset so the welds aren't under high tensile stress will also help – it will distribute the stresses over a wider area.
Very nice looking shop! I sure wish I had a gantry crane in my shop, but I just don't have the overhead height and I have two posts in the middle. Best I can do is a little jib crane over the welding bench. I have one of those cherry-picker engine hoists but my shop is so crowded now there's no floor space left to roll it!
Tin,
Don't bother with the others – the fractional output is necessary and I found one on Amazon that looks real good. More than the HF closeout one, but reasonable enough. I ordered it so I'm all set fo rnow.
I sure appreciate your kind offer!
Rich
If you happen to see them in the store, I'd happily take two of them – that's the Item #98851. I was just checking my old orders so I had the part number right at hand.
It would sure be nice to get one or two of those – they're the perfect thing for the work I do.
I sure appreciate the offer, Tin! If you get them, let me know so I can send you payment.
Rich
Yeah, I saw them on sale too and ordered two of them, along with one other little thing. They sent me the other little thing and NO calipers, just a note saying they were only available in stores, not online. The SOB's charged me the full freight for what the order would have been if it was all delivered, too. I called and bitched about it and they gave me $10 gift card. Big deal – I really wanted the calipers. Now discontinued, naturally. Sometimes HF really annoys me.
Somehow, over the years I seem to have accumulated about a thousand various drill bits and a good half dozen 6″ calipers. I just mike 'em when I can't read 'em, which is usually since I don't see teeny little letters too well these days. Pretty soon though, I'm gonna need to get one of the new digital calipers as I'm getting so I have a hard time reading a vernier accurately. The two dial calipers never seem to be where I want them , either.
My solution to that issue was to just buy a whole crapload of the bits up to 3/8″ so I never run short. I got this set for half price on sale a couple weeks ago. Hard to beat the price and the bits are plenty good enough for my uses. Sure saves a lot of screwing around looking for that missing/broken/dull bit!
Nicely executed project, Ray! That should make the weed eradication a lot smoother and easier. Thanks for the step-by-step on it.

You sound unfortunately pessimistic, Mike. I can understand that, what with the latest diagnosis and the lack of response from organizations you have reached out to.
Even so, you might as well be calling them back repeatedly until you get a response as just sitting there doing nothing much. Many areas of the country have cancer patient support groups that can be reached by checking with either the American Cancer Society or the hospitals. Most of those local groups have members (or employees) who are dedicated patient advocates who are very effective at getting you what you need.
You're right that there are many more than just one type of cancer. I've had a couple of squamous cell cancers removed from my hide and my brother had a melanoma removed a couple years ago. Mom died of lung cancer. I have to go get another CT scan of my lungs next week to determine if what set off my collapsed lung/pneumonia etc deal in November is lung cancer. I'm not too happy about that, but I'll take it as it comes.
I don't know exactly what type/location of cancer my buddy Dave has, but I do know that initially they gave him about a 20% chance of surviving another six months – that was almost ten years ago. Dave is a fighter and doesn't take no for an answer. He's also one of the funniest guys I've ever known, in spite of having to go through chemo every few months, probably for the rest of his life.
You might want to talk to your doc about some treatment for depression. Depression is a normal and common adjunct of both the actual cancer and also its treatment, but you don't have to succumb to it – there are plenty of effective treatments for depression these days and I really encourage you to look into them. I wound up in the ICU pretty much dying for 12 days last November and when they finally sent me home I was still in real rough shape physically and it screwed with my attitude horribly. The attitude problem ruined my sleep and killed my energy so I was generally useless and not getting any better. After a month of that shit I finally went to my doc and he put me on some anti-depressants that made a huge difference in both my outlook and my energy levels. I take them every day. They've allowed me to carry on with my life instead of sitting around doing nothing and hating it. I'm pretty sure I could be doing even better if I went and got my head candled for a few sessions, but I can't afford to fly to Florida every week to do it. (No decent headshrinkers down here.)
Anyway, I'm on your side and hope you get things going your way soon. If I can help, let me know.
