Good luck Adam, but I’d still try to see if a TY290 engine starter would fit. Let me know how you make out, I’m curious now.

My guess is it’s a later model Guilin, 1992 to 1998. Yuchai acquired Guilin (named after the town Guilin) sometime in the mid/late 90’s. It’s not clear exactly when, but they remained unchanged until 2001, but still offering the 20, 30, and 40 hp versions but with the TY series Jiang Dong (a diamond with JD cast in the block) engines. The original YCT-406 40 hp version was discontinued in 2004.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

I was going to say that it might be a two cylinder version of the TY395 engine, the bore being the same, but the stroke is 10 mm longer, and the governed speed is lower. That said, the starter may be the same. You say that the customer doesn’t have the original starter? Wow. You will have to measure from the flywheel housing face to the forward face of the flywheel and compare that to the pinion projection of a new starter. Also, the ID of the hole in the flywheel housing compared to the pilot size on a new starter housing, and the clock positions of the mounting bolts, and if there is any solenoid interference. If it’s an older model dozer it’s probably a Guilin (Yuchai bought them out years ago). A picture of the dozer would help in verifying this. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. Have never heard of a KY series engine, so it’s  likely to be a discontinued model. If you have the dozer in your shop I’d try to fit a TY engine series starter to it.

That’s incredible! We didn’t get that news up here. Glad you’re safe.

Wow! That looks like a chore. I have a little 18″ electric blower that I use so she can fetch her morning paper. Didn’t use it at all this year, so far. If I was living in your neighborhood I think I would definitely have at least one of these.

Geez Eric, take it easy. I almost had heart failure just looking at that. I thought you had a snowblower.

You say that you change out the thermostat every couple of years. Curious why you do that. Has this issue started after the last time you changed it?

Looking for a clutch for 05 bulldog 354 with a jiangsu 395i motor.

                      Have you contacted any dealers?

Nice looking rig. I know you’ll be happy with the top ‘n tilt. Hope the knee gets better quickly.
While you’re at it, you might want to consider a quick hitch too. Really saves time and frustration.
