      David and Rob,

Is there a particular brand of diesel fuel conditioning that you would recommend to help prevent the microbial build up.  I will proceed down this path and report back results.

I will proceed down this path and report back results.

      Many Thanks,

I did find the pump with a blown seal. Now to find the culprit of why the FEL is dead heading. I replaced the quick disconnects recently so I do no believe they are a problem. I suspect is the FEL control valve assembly. Keno tractors told me these have historic problematic sticking issues and that I need to disassemble and clean the control valve assembly. Any other ideas you may have are welcome. Thanks

I hope its a blown pump seal, but I don’t believe that explains the grinding noise. You are correct there are two pumps connected to the crank case right next to each other. I will proceed and pull the pump to see what I find.

            David,

Thanks for your assistance.  I believe the engine oil has hydraulic fluid mixed in with it. Yes the temperature was normal. I believe the oil pressure was good. I hadn’t noticed any signs of low pressure. I purchased the tractor used with 400 hours, so I don’t know about torquing the head after 50 hours, but it has not been torqued since I have owned in two years.

I’m thinking about pulling the hydraulic pump to see what I can see. Any more ideas you can provide would be welcome.

            Thanks,

            Cal Miller

So I removed the thimble caps and sure enough it was exactly as Tinbender stated. One of the screws holding the springs was loose. I tightened it down and it works perfectly when re-assembled. All is well. Thanks so much to everyone for your assistance in debugging this hydraulic problem. It is much appreciated. I am still planning to swap out the quick couplers.

Thanks for all your comments. I think I will change the quick couplers for sure and am currently looking into a new control valve. Stay tuned for more updates.

                  All,

Swapping lift hoses at the controller made no effect. Swapping lift and bucket hoses the problem of very slow movement moved from the lift to the bucket. I believe this indicates the valve has a problem. How can I determine if the valve is plugged or not working correctly? The knob under the seat only controls the three point and does not appear to have any effect on the FEL.

More information. The FEL is factory installed by Jinma and is model JM/ZL-40 and the tractor is Jinma 454 LE.

It has not always been this way. It started last fall and I am just getting back to it. i have about 500 hours on the tractor. To be honest I don’t remember the last thing I did before it started raising very slowly. I will try a few of the things Piper mentioned and report back.

Thanks Rob for your comments. The smoke color is medium gray definitely not black or dark grey.

the smoke happens intermittently sometimes when box leveling and sometimes when no load is applied but always as medium to higher RPMs.

My tractor is a 2007 Jinma 454 with 500 hours.

I do not treat the fuel. I have no idea if what I buy is treated. I usually by diesel at Chevron.

I will look into getting new ejectors or having these reworked which ever is less expensive.

                      Thanks again for your ideas.

back to working on these puffs of smoke. Thanks for your information in helping me to determine the problem.

                        A little clarification.

The smoke is medium and  blends in with storm clouds. The radiator is not low. I do notice that I am always adding hydraulic oil. I know I have a leak in the external connections near the transfer case. Could there also be a leak of hydraulic oil into the combustion chamber? not sure how these are connected.  After testing a little more I’m not loosing all power so much as I was concerned and cut the RPM. If I leave the engine running at medium rpm  the smoke lasts about 10 seconds and stops and will repeat every 1-2 minutes.  Do any of you have any more ideas with this new information or shall I pursue the path of having the injectors pop tested and cleaned. You information is valuable.

                        Thanks, Cal Miller
