I talked to Jerry at Affordable Tractor and he said it sounds like the pump has worn out. I asked about the diverter vavle and he said from what I was describing it doesn't sound like that's a problem. I decided to order a new pump. Thinking about it more I am remembering the system has been slowing down over a few years. Anyway, I'll replace the pump and see what happens. I guess I need to find a port to put a pressure gauge on to monitor the pressure over time.
Unlike some that seek advise I will post the results one way or the other.
Pull the filter, fill it up so it's running over and screw it back on. Pull the compression release and turn it over for about 5 seconds and release the compression release. It should start.
If not, you will have to break the injector lines loose at the injectors and turn the engine over until fuel comes out at the injectors. Tighten the nuts and try to start it.
I have a 254 and I put the tool box on the left fender.
It won't hurt anything but it does leave a slight gummy residue.
Avenue, I can help you on the manual for a 254. If you contact Northern Tool they used to sell a very good manual for the NT254 and probably still do.
Doesn't your reservoir have a drain plug?
Hi Bob, sorry to hear about your wife's problem and hope she gets better. Glad to see your back on the site.
Bob, I suggest you buy an external hard drive and back you your files every month. Go to system tools and select Files and Settings Transfer Wizard. It will copy all your files and settings but not your programs.
I had the same thing happen and I keep it backed up now. In fact I need to do it this weekend.
Northern Tool used to make manuals for the NorTrac that is a Jimna. Contact Northern Tool about a manual. I have the Chinese manuals and NorTrac manuals for my NT254 and the NorTrac manuals are more informative.
Do you have the Chinese manuals for your tractor?
In August 2005 I bought my Nortrac 254 from a friend. I started looking for info and found the CTOA site and have been here ever since. I think we have been through at least three different sites and I lost my signup date each time so now I look like a newby, well, not physically, I am 70 years old so I guess I'm an oldby.
Hal, the years have been good for me and my tractor and a lot of it has been because of this site. Thank you Hal from the bottom of my heart. This site has been worth it's weight in gold.
The lithium batteries require a special charger. Some of them have a third wire for sensing and some also sense for temp. A charger for ni-cad and ni-mh batteries sense the voltage peak and cut off the charge to a trickle charge, at least the chargers for my model aircraft do that. There is also a difference in the charge rate for all three batteries. Some ni-cad/ni-mh don't have a cutoff feature and keep charging at full rate and they need to be monitored all the time. The best way with those chargers is to have a battery fully discharged and then charge it for the length of time that the voltage and capacity of the battery requires and unplug it at the end of that time frame other wise the batteries will over heat and be damaged.
Unless the charger is designed to be able to charge each type battery it should not be used.
