I heard from a guy that sells front mount blowers with an underbelly shaft powered by the rear pto, it cost about 2/3 what I paid for the tractor, plus fabrication so it is a no go.  As for the “smoke and mirror” suggestion of Tinbender, I have issues driving forward while looking forward.  Seems like I am always cutting things to close and running into stuff, so I dont think that will work for me.  Looks like it is a rear mount blower and Advil!

Yes, I have seen the same and somehow it knows when I am really desperate and need info and is exceptionally slow!

has anybody modified the pto shield to flip up out of the way when attaching implements.  i saw this on an orange tractor the other day

you are right carl, sound advice i will try to follow it

did not mess with the fuel injector timing, just curious.  if it is as i have read about 14-18 deg before tdc then seems important that both valves are closed just before or at tdc.  which was part of the reason i was so neurotic about being sure #1 was a tdc when adjusting valves

upon further inspection what i thought was the tdc mark on the crank pulley, a line on the face of the pulley is really 180 deg from tdc.  when i openned the flywheel inspection port we found the marks on the flywheel to verify tdc and low and behold there were marks on the edge of the crank pulley lined up with the pointer on the block as well.  dont know how we missed the edge marks on the pulley the first time around.  lash on the valves was pretty good, torque on the head bolts was not.  they all moved a little before the wrench broke at 100#.  i did not back them off first, just tightened.

could someone explain to me how the injector pump times the fuel injection on these tractors, curious about that.

                thanks

mine got bent up when a lift arm pin broke and things went flying all over the place.  i took it off with the intention of trying to straighten it out and once i realized how much easier it is to attach implements without it, it never got put back. probably a saftey issue there but as i see it the whole tractor is a saftey issue!

does anyone know if the glow plug hole is lined up vertically over the piston?  if so i might rig up a depth gauge to verify my tdc mark for cylinder #1

i am definitely turning clockwise and the tractor ran fine before i started.

I live in southern Westchester county NY, with as I joke “winter views of the Bronx”  Tractor mechanics are as common as corn fields around here.  The last time I did valve work was when my dad and I did a valve job on our 64 Pontiac Tempest wagon.  Being the pack rat I am I still have the feeler gauge.  So I guess it is time to cowboy up and get it done.  I've read several protocols and am most concerned about being sure I am at TDC on the compression stroke of cyl #1 at the start, should be down hill from there.

                        Thanks
