when first started this site on world crossing/homestead one of northerns head tractor/dozer person was a member and very active; and at the time there was a direct link from northern's tractor dozer site; don't know what happen; as others have said all this was before many of the dealers here were in bussiness;
i totally agree that tommy, ronald, and other of the dealers here are a great assest to this form and their customers; for me the delivery was the deciding factor; northern handled it all the freight a roll back to unload it from the semi; all i had to do was be here to take delivery after it was on the ground;

phil it has been a few years now since i have been into mine; but yes you should be able to remove the band and replace it from the top cover;
there are two adjustment bolts around the final drive housing that need to be backed out;
when removing the band i would attach a trailing wire to it; then when you reinstal the new one all you will need to do is attach the leading end to the wire and fish the new one in place;
as to turning the steering clutch assembly can i don't feel this would be a good idea, it is thin metal, i guessing but i think between 1/8-1/4 inch of metal; also if my memory serves the lining on the break band is lamanted and not rivited but i not sure on that point;
believe me unless you have to you don't want to go into the final drive ; but if you do understand that the weight of each final isn't all that great, but the problem is , that it is almost impossible to balance it and it will get on you in a heart beat;
as rooker stated if you go in make sure to have the two seals; on hand the area that houses the break band and steering clutches is a dry area; so you want to keep it that way one seal goes on the shaft to the transmission and the other goes on the shaft to the bull gear; the seal for the tranny was my problem and it allowed oil to get on the clutch plates which caused that track to slip under load;
the canister which houses the clutch bands is not sealed it will just slide apart to expose the bands; they are dry metal bands with teeth on them so be sure to watch when taking them apart, some have inside teeth and some have outside teeth; and should be one for one; replacment should not be necessary unless some of them are cracked or broken; if they have grease on them a good soaking is some degreaser and dry well and you are set to go;
hope this helps

i can understand not knowing when it was bought the only way that i can figure how old mine is ; is know that i bought it the same year i retired, that is half the equasion ; then i just have to try and remember what year that was;
if it is nortrac then he can call northern and they should beable to pull it up especilly if he has purchased other things from them; as they usually keep your account under the same #

March 15, 2011 at 7:17 pm in reply to: Re: Clutch problem after sitting for a couple of months #31673may not be related; but i have a 1969 chevy ton and half; sometimes when it has been setting for a while (month or more) the clutch won't disengage; and what i have to do is put it in gear, which i am lucky the starter is strong enough, and start it with the clutch pedal to the floor, and while it is going i tap the breaks a couple of times and it breaks loose and works fine as long as i keep using it every few days;
like i say it's not a tractor, but it is a manual clutch which should be simular;

sounds more like a linkage problem; the disk in the clutch housing shouldn't seize unless the operator rode the pedal all the time or the linkage was way out of adjustment and overheated them; but never heard of it happening;
remove the deck plate on that side and have someone in the seat to work the pedal so that you can get a good eyeball on the linkage, one time i had a simular problem while working in small saplings and a piece of one had jamed the linkage and broke off, but i could tell something was wrong cause the pedal was locked and would not move;
another possibility is that the roller pin that joins the pedal to the shaft has stripped and is allowing the pedal to operate with out engaging the linkage this would be more of a problem with the left clutch/brake that you describe;
keep us posted on the results

February 27, 2011 at 5:21 pm in reply to: What extra profile fields would yall like to see added? #31406i luckly have not had to deal with the problem; so i may seem naive but i have mostly seen that most drug use starts as sort of a rebelion and then progresses from there;
here in ky the state is trying to put sudifed back to where you have to have a dr. script just to buy it; they have already pulled it off the shelf and you have to sign your life away to get it from the druggest; which instead of helping with the problem seems to have made it worst;
it may not be a popular opinion but the more you make things illegal then the more of us become criminals;
guns, seatbelts, smoking (tobacco) jaywalking, these are all things that are in the law or trying to be; in ky here we don't have enough bed space for the voilent offenders; cause all of them are taken up with minor offences;
when guns are outlawed then only outlaws will have guns;
