I've been anticipating this repair for a while and sure enough, it has arrived. Anyone know what size roll pin goes into the pedal linkage on a 284?

Check the level without screwing it in. Mine does the same as yours, if I don't overfill it doesn't happen that often.

Put a 30 Amp in the bottom. There is no power at that fuse, maybe why on mine it isn't marked, although it is wired.
The 7.5 amp flasher fuse was the culprit. It controls not only the flashers but the entire cluster of gauges and switches for lights. The lights are slaved off this fuse to a separate 20 amp headlight fuse and rear working light fuse. Not sure why it was set up this way but everything seems to be working again.
One advantage to all of this was finding the broken horn wire. Not that I need to beep at anyone very often, but at least some warm day I'll know where to fix it.
Thanks all.

I've been all over it again. Now it starts fine but no gauges or lights so I have a narrower place to look. Not sure why it didn't turn over before, maybe I just didn't try it when I saw no power.
My bottom fuze is 15 amp and is good. If it is supposed to be 30 I'll replace it. The fuze box cover does not say what that one is for or what size to use. Always wondered why.

Went out to start my 284 this morning, turned the key and nothing. No gauges, no power light and no starter. Battery is fine, will crank the engine if you go straight to the solenoid. Fuses are all good and power is getting to the ignition switch and out when turned to the on position. I only have one 30 amp fuse, previous post says there are two but not on this one, unless hidden somewhere outside the fuse box?? Its snowing up a storm today so I'll be starting it from the solenoid to clear the yard if I don't figure out whats going on. Battery connections are clean and tight.
Any suggestions?

I noticed that you are running between 1000 and 1500 rpm. Is that high enough? I normally blow snow at 1800 to get it thrown far enough and to keep the engine rpm from bogging. Also I believe 1800 equates to 540 at the PTO, not applicable in your case with a hydraulic unit but have you tried running with a higher rpm?

Try “thesmartfarmer.com”, $449 includes auger size of your choice. He is also on E bay and you can get a better price there.
