Zero ohms is a bad thing if you expect the glow plugs to heat.

Probably not since the wood is so porous.

          Bob,

Is your insurance agent aware of the damage?

Many years ago when I was a teenager, I got a good lesson from dad's insurance agent.  There was some damage done on his car that I was using and I was trying to figure out what to do.

That agent came down on me hard.  He said that he did not try to do my job, so why was I trying to do his.  He said letting him do his job was what I paid him for.

I have never forgotten that lesson.

            Don,

These are the wires on my 284.  Perhaps this will help you.

Check the voltage that you are getting at the Interrupt Switch and starter with the key in the Start position.  On my 284 these are the wires involved.

Let’s work these one at a time and start with the PTO problem.

When you say “The pto is engaged all the time and the lever does not stay down.”,

                1. Are you talking about the engage/disengage PTO lever near your right foot?
                2. You cannot push it down?
                3. It moves upwards by itself?

Those bolts have to be busted loose before re-torquing.  If you simply check them you are ignoring years of heating/cooling, rust, paint, etc.

I recommend breaking them loose one at a time then re-torquing to avoid any possible shifting of the head.  Also do this in the proper tightening sequence for the heads.

                    Rod,

That short lower lever is to engage the PTO shaft.

The other lever is not for the PTO.  If you are stuck in the mud, etc and 4WD won't get you out, that lever can be used to engage both rear tires to eliminate slippage.

                      Carl,

Do you have a pressure gauge on your system or can you hook one up?

                        Bob,

I have the 284 and had trouble seeing the level on the metal rod.  I use a wood dowel with a marking of 1-1/2″ (full) and 2-1/8″ (low) measured from the lip of the hole.
