Two-Tone, Is there no resistance or very little resistance? I do remember when putting the tractor together and checking the valve adjustment from the factory (way, way off) I was surprised how little pressure it took to activate the compression release. I could do it easily with my thumb.
Mine is the same way, an unused compression release. And I'm really late doing the re-torque as it's sitting at around 95 hours right now. Hey, I talked about it the other day with the friend that helped assemble it.
That was back in 2008 or 09, I'll have to look. I think we just drilled out the old one and chased the threads but I'll look when I get home.
When I first got the tractor I drained these, and it's well past time to do so again. As I recall I got the center and right one loose and had to drill and tap for another plug on the left side. I do remember them being a PITA though.
Just an update. I've finally gotten somewhere on the coop project which is good since I have some tenants waiting to move in I hope to have this project and their run finished this week.
Bob is correct. You need to stop what you're doing and at the very least have a diesel mechanic go over the engine and fuel injection pump with you before you do something you will regret, if you haven't done so already.
Be careful with the pressure relief valve (it's facing you above the control stick, at least on mine), if you take it apart to clean it count the threads so you can put it back the way you found it. If you find you need o-rings a Harbor Freight $8.00 o-ring kit has all the sizes you need in it.
Any chance of getting a picture of your control valve? On my Jinma 284 at the end of the valve shafts facing the front of the tractor there are covers that look like thimbles. Take these off and the return springs for the valve shafts are inside, held in by a screw on the end. See if these have worked loose. Mine lost the ability to dump, and if you tried it acted like the pump was deadheading. It was one of these springs with it's screw backed out. I used to have pictures of it stored on here but they seem to have vanished
